Underbody parts on some customers' brand-new trucks have arrived already rusty, and they're not happy. Ford says the problem has no impact on performance or part life.

A bent bumper or fender or even a torn seat covering would have no impact on performance or part life either.

This is nothing more than a horseshit-mickeymouse-bullshit statement that essentially tells the buyers to “piss off”.

I have some unprotected (rusty) parts under mine as well. Hell, my front driveshaft looks like it was lifted directly from a ‘42 Willys Jeep that sat in the mud for 60 yrs.

I’m not nearly as picky as some of you out there, but I do understand your dismay.
I most likely would feel a bit different if my intention was to wrap it up and store it for years on end, but I intend to use it as general transportation and occasional hauling.
Won’t be perfect for long.

Would not have the same attitude with a Shelby, Demon, or Vette

I will not dismiss your claims of rusty crap on a very pricey tool.
Ford should handle this better.

Only have 509 miles on mine and already rust. This is unacceptable on a brand new truck.

After all of the great press and the media hype that Ford has received for this ‘Truck of the Year’, including successes powering homes, they’ve received some serious self-inflicted wounds between the battery leak, the window adhesive, and now this rust problem.
know that there can be glitches in a new model year but these are simply unacceptable. Ford needs to fix its manufacturing problems and make its newest customers whole. If not, their flagship product will be in trouble.

They need to do something about it I absolutely agree 100 percent I just don’t know what they will do.

Picked up my Limited today (3/4). Built on 2/27, delivered to dealer on 3/2.

11 miles on the ODO, and coming from a long-in-the-tooth 2010 F150 Lariat, I absolutely love it!

Rear differential was pristine, as was the entire vehicle.

assuming it was a Dearborn Build? I’m waiting on mine. It has a production date of 2/25.

Figured I would post mine as well. Picked up the lariat mid January. Noticed the stains on my driveway after it rained. Looked under and saw what I would consider an unacceptable amount of rust. This is in Florida and the nearest body of salt water is about 40 miles away.

I've been watching this thread for a while and am very thankful for it and all of the info on this forum. I am expecting my ordered truck in a couple weeks. I bought my current truck, 2009 Nissan Frontier new, and guarantee I never looked underneath before or after the sale. My question for those that buy new vehicles more often, what would the undercarriage of say a 2021 Silverado look like? Is this a Ford anomaly for 2021?

Thank You

Viewing some of the pics on this thread, I agree that a few of them are excessive for such a short time of ownwrship. If it were mine personally, I would just get after it myself as I am plenty confident and skilled enough (I'm making a funny) to fix it. It would require more time and effort to get the truck back to the dealership and have them "fix" it and it doesn't take a whole lot of skill.
We're supposed to get a break from the cold next week so I'll actually get under the truck this weekend for the first time and see what if anything more than a clean-up is needed. If excessive, I'll get some Rustoleum rust remover spray and after it does its thing, I'll hit it with black Rustoleum spray paint. Satin or glossy, which ever can I have sitting on the shelf. I usually have some around just for that very purpose because I have never owned a truck that didn't need it, Fords, Rams or Dodges.

Yes, Limited trim so built in Dearborn. Dealer is located only 50 miles north of the plant, so minimal delay/exposure during transit.

One tweet at CEO and Ford Motor Company showing one of these insane pics would do it. And asking them to reply with a clear statement about how this isn’t the Ford quality standard and that they stand ready to replace any parts which are shipped like this. Happy to send the tweet but stronger if we all commit to retweeting and spreading the word.

This is Ford’s iconic model and carries the brand - they can’t afford any mass questioning of quality.

I am in. I will not take delivery if I see Rust on my Platty next week !!

This is what mine looks like now after the fix I did and it will look like that years from now. One of the benefits of living in the south I guess. :sneaky:

Can you give details of how you fixed it ? Cost and procedure and who paid for it ?

Get yourself some rustoleum rust dissolver or reformer if it's significant or just hit it with some Rustoleum satin black to cover exposed light corrosion. Less than $20 in materials. Easy peasy fix.
