Today I added some LED light strips underneath my running boards. I wired them in to my cargo light (tapped into the white wire) so that the light strips come on when the doors are unlocked, opened, or when the cargo light button is depressed inside the cab. It really lights up the puddles in the dark nicely, and was a simple mod that took about a half hour to install

I've got 4 small LEDS that came with my AMP powered boards, been wondering what to do with them (not fond of letting them turn on w/ lowering as wiring to unlock puddles are a better option). Do you have puddle lamps in your mirrors too, or is this just your strip?

I do not have the puddle lamps, the light is just from the LED strips. If I did have the puddle lights I would have ideally tapped them into that power source so that the buttons would control them as well

Should make it a lot easier for mice to find your truck and get in out of the rain.

I hope not 😬 I’ve actually had good luck so far by just placing a few dryer sheets under the hood to keep the critters away. You have to swap them out with fresh dryer sheets every couple months, but it’s a cheap mouse repellent

Looks great, I'm curious how they will hold up, being so close to the ground, getting hit with water and debris.

Are they just stuck on our are they secured with zip ties or something?

So far so good, they were advertised as being ‘waterproof’ since they are bed lights for trucks. It is just attached using the 3M tape that is on the back of the led strip. I did use a specific 3M adhesion promoter meant for VHB tape and they have been through multiple snow storms and subsequent undercarriage pressure washes by me and they are still rock solid. The adhesion promoter is what I think made all the difference

Could you tell me which wire in the truck you tapped into for the white lights? I bought a light bar that has a white light as well with a white wire, but I'm not certain where to tap that wire into to get it to come on with the interior lights in the truck. The other wires, I was just going to run to the rear taillight (parking, turn, ground).

For mine I tapped into the cargo light that’s on the back of the cab with the 3rd brake light. There’s a black and white power and ground wires that I tapped into since I wanted my lights to come on when I hit the unlock button on my keyfob and whenever I opened the doors. Since the cargo light already does that you can chase your wire through above the headliner by the rear glass and I ran it out one of the vents behind the back seat which leads out between the gap of the cab and the bed. I hope some of this makes sense, I can try and shoot some pictures if it isn’t when there’s daylight

If you wouldn't mind snapping some pictures, I think that'd be really helpful. I didn't think about going all the way up to the cargo light, wasn't sure where that wire harness ran and which color wires on the truck side I'd be looking for. But yeah, pictures would be a great help, if you can grab them.

Sorry for the delay we got hit with some snow yesterday. So you will route your wires from your third brake light and with a coat hook or firm wire be able to fish your wire behind the rear most portion of your headliner gently pulling down if you need more access. Then behind your back seat where your spare tire jack is will be a carpeted panel that has a few clips securing it. Behind there is a cab vent where I routed my wires so they lead out between the gap of the cab and the bed. The pictures I attached are of what it looks like behind the cab light, the carpeted panel behind your rear seat to pull back, and where the wires come out of the vent behind the cab.

For reference the black wire is your ground and the white wire is the positive. The red wire is the signal wire for the brake light and shares a black (ground) wire with the two adjoining cargo lights. This is for those that have incandescent bulbs for their third brake light, I’m not sure if the colors are the same for factory LED brake lights

Hope this helps 👍🏻
