I just spoke to Jake at SmartCap. He stated that they are at full capacity in the South Africa plant and are opening up a plant in Dallas first of 2022. He expected to have the EVO Sports available in Q4 2021 and Commercial in Q1 2022.

He also stated that when they get caught up and some breathing room, then they are going to offer custom paint. This is not guaranteed, just on the roadmap.

Can you open the tailgate with the rear window closed? Does the auto tailgate still work with this?
Still happy with it months later?

Looks great! Definitely would consider with custom paint being an option and more serious camping trips in the future

Looks great, thanks for sharing. Unique features.

I went with a Carvan Camper Shell (Reno, NV). A lot heavier and a bit more $.

Just heard from the shop where I put down a deposit - my smartcap is in and I'm going to get it installed on the 29th. I got the rack and table too. Apparently the table hasn't come in yet.

I’m anxious to see it installed! I’m considering putting in an order as well

Mine came in on Friday and I installed it this weekend. How did they hookup your brake light? Mine did not come with any additional wiring harness.
I didn't pay close attention that part. I know the tech who was doing the install has to get help because he couldn't get the brake light to work. Can't say if there was an additional wiring harness. Have you reached out to RSI directly? I've found them to be very responsive.

That was my next step. I'll let everyone know what they say. The box had a big sticker on it "wiring harness not included." Not sure if there was a supply issue, or if they aren't including one with the 2021's.

RSI got back to me. Harnesses for incandescent tail lights are on their way to Texas and will be shipped out when they get there. Harnesses for LED tail lights on still in development with no current ETA, but there is a waitlist. Contact support if you need one.

I just picked up my smartcap yesterday and noticed the same wiring harness sticker. Good to know that I'll have to make some other arrangements for the light hookup since i have LED lights. Hopefully it's just a matter of tapping in to the brake light wire and running it to the cap.

I might use the 7pin wire though just to not possibly create any issues with the LED taillights

Is anyone else dangerously close to buying one? If so are you going to have it painted? They cost more money than the competition but it looks like the build quality is superior.

Update:

Here is the finished product on my F-150 if anyone is interested.

New member and realize that this an old thread but hopeful for a response. I’m Seriously considering the smart cap but also interested in your tire/wheel(Fuel) info. I really like the look. 👍Level kit? Thanks

I am a long time camper shell user, and have had one on my trucks for a long time. I am a little confused though, why is this superior to you guys? My A.R.E Sportsman model can do everything the RSI can, and thats an older model from the early 2000s on my 2004 F350 CCLB 6.0 4WD 6 Speed manual. I'm not hating, I just am not seeing anything that is revolutionary. I was looking to see if they claimed it completely seals the truck bed, but I didn't see that either. I appreciate the bed replacement model, which for you guys that don't know is a copy of Norweld's "Ute Tray" as the rest of the world calls them. Norweld's is aluminum though, and very popular for the offroad market, and the Overland world.

It's a little bit frustrating though that major manufacturers are still making truck beds that have so much dead space. Depending on how this F150 Lightning is setup with the bed, we may swap it for a Norweld......
