I have a 2022 F150 XLT 302A with BLIS and onboard scales. I am in the process of replacing my halogen tail lights (with BLIS AND onboard scales) with Tremor LED tail lights (with BLIS but NO scales) and ran into a wall. I can't figure out how the reverse light wiring works and which wire controls the reverse lights for builds with BLIS and onboard scales.
I started by trying to first identify which wire from the truck's tail light harness controls the reverse light. With some testing, I found that the reverse light and BLIS are controlled by the larger black barrel connector - see pictures. When I put the vehicle in reverse with the halogen tail lights still attached, the reverse light comes on as expected. When I disconnect the halogen tail light and use a multimeter to find the wire getting power (i.e., the reverse light wire), nothing seems to change / no new pin sockets are getting any voltage.
I then tried to do the reverse - find the pin on the halogen tail light that controls the reverse. I did this by hooking the halogen tail light to a 12v DC battery. I tested the smaller connector on the tail light which controls the brake, turn and parking with no issues. Everything works as I expected. I then tested the larger connector which is part of the BLIS component by hooking up to every pin (one at a time) while the ground pin is attached to the negative terminal on the 12V battery. None of the pins I tested turned on the reverse light. At this point, I was very confused. When I put my truck in reverse, is there a special signal that's being sent to the larger barrel connector that's activating the reverse light?
I'm baffled as this is beyond my basic electrical expertise. Any help is much appreciated!
