First thing I plan to modify is that old looking radio antenna. Does anyone know if current aftermarket stubby antennas will work? Is it the same size thread on 2021 models as the 2015-2020 models?

That’s one of the first things I did when I picked up my 2021 is replace the whip antenna due to garage door clearance issues. This one from Amazon works well. No problem pulling in local radio stations and no more clearance issues.

Nice! I'm assuming I will have the same problem but we will wait and see.

Interesting - only because on my FJ Cruiser, the "old style" whip antenna was the same height as the top rail on the roof rack. Acted as a parking garage "ceiling finder". If the antenna hit, you knew to start backing up.

Are you guys indicating that the F150 whip antenna is actually higher than the highest point of the cab??

Does anyone know the total clearance for Platinum (20” tires) including the antenna?

Good question. I’m not sure for the F-150.

I’m getting this one so long as it doesn’t entirely mess up the range reception. I think it’s the 7” version of the one KBKEITH posted.

I’m pretty confident it will fit. Ford has been using the same mast style antenna for years.

I totally missed that one. It’s the same as mine except shorter. Had I known I probably would have opted for the shorter one. Ahh well, the 13” is working fine. ??

It must be. The antenna always got hung up on my garage door when pulling in or backing out.

Yes the antenna is higher and often hits on standard garage door heights. A large antenna is simply the cheapest and most reliable way for long range antenna reception. In the antenna world bigger is always better.

It’s doubtful that much if anything has changed from the 2015-2020 to the 2021 mounting.

With that being said and with all stubby antennas, you will lose some reception.

So quick question, are antennas good for anything other than grabbing radio frequencies?

This antenna in the f150 is only for am/fm radio frequencies. It has two more antenas on the roof for satellite and data

My past 3 F150s I just took my dremmel and cut off a few inches and applied some black paint to the end of it. Cost nothing and no need to complicated things. I wanted it as tall as possible for reception but not hitting top of my garage opening.

That’s exactly what I did on my former ‘18. I cut off just enough to clear the garage and painted it black. Worked just fine.

For my ‘21 though, I just put a shorter aftermarket one on. I get all my local stations just fine. I mostly stream music so reception for me is a non-issue anyway.
