I'd only consider shorter intervals if I were towing/hauling more than 10-20% of the time. Just DD duty, road trips, and home improvement runs, I don't see any reason to go earlier than the truck tells you too.

And that's why I change my oil at 5K intervals. 50% plus of my mileage is towing. That falls under the "severe" category per my owner's manual.
