Not trying to ruffle feathers, but C&D tested these 2 trucks:

F-150 Tremor Ecoboost with 612lbs of options vs a base 145" 4x4 ecoboost (5562 vs 4950lbs). On heavier 33" off road tires.

F-150 Powerboost with 274 lbs of options vs a base 145" 4x4 Powerboost (5794 vs 5520lbs). On lighter 32" goodyears.

They both got basically idential performance numbers from CarandDriver's testing.

300lbs of added options and 1" larger, heavier tires should make any truck measurably faster.

PB is a great choice, but Ford knew what is was doing sending a high payload/light optioned PB in for testing.

A Powerboost can give you different results one pull from another based on SOC of the Hybrid battery.

A 60Amp shot of 285V current to the Electric Drive motor is a nice shot way down low in the RPMs before the snails spool yet. But you can't count on it unless you verify the HV battery is loaded for bear. :)

Were both vehicles in the same drive mode? If so, what was the drive mode used?

Im pretty sure C&D tries different modes, ect to get best times. And they are probably about as accurate as we can get. Maybe a couple tenths variation here and there...

But 300lbs less options and smaller, lighter tires should be close to half a second imo.

I doubt C&D are monitoring pids though.

This could get you say 60ftlbs less torque off the dig

It's not exactly predictable, based on various conditions, but haven't you ever noticed how your Powerboost sometimes catches you by surprise and you ask yourself "dang, what got into the beast that time?"

C&D isn’t always the most accurate, they tested a 2018 5.0L V8 at 5.5 seconds and then tested a 2021 at 6.2 seconds. I can tell you from watching YouTube dragy videos every 4x4 2021+ 5.0 I have seen is 5.6-5.8 seconds at sea level. What you don’t know is where C&D is testing (elevation) and gear ratios. Just food for thought. I’m more familiar with the 5.0 stats but what I am alluding to is their published tests vary big time and lack a lot of info.

Another important thing to note is the PowerBoost adds a significant amount of curb weight. Were the trims the same? An XLT will be a lot faster than a Platinum.

PowerBoost squarely won every pull here
Yeah that's a good data point. They're very close for sure, so much that it comes down to options. But you can see there the Ecoboost is leveled on aftermarket (probably significantly heavier and some more roll resistance) tires. That alone will make a big difference esp at high speed and off the line.

Yeah cant trust their numbers like gold. Different times of year, drivers, ect.

I also think people tend to way underestimate what added weight from options and trims can do, especially tires/wheels which not only can be heavy but can kill hp see

Truth is, my grandad and dad both would be stunned by either truck and they wouldn't differentiate them the way we are. They'd argue that they both have the same motor and we have lost our minds. 😂

I’m excited for some mad lad to crack a PB tune and send some powertrain component into low earth orbit. I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

The PB has the same 3.5 motor so there's really nothing special on that front. It's goodies reside between the motor and the trans in the lengthened bellhousing.

Another benefit it has over the 3.5 is the 3.73 gears -- so long as shifts fire off quick, it's rolling through the gears faster. The raptor R has the 10 spd in it and in manual mode that thing shifts hella fast so it's all in the programming. It'd be nice if ford actually went ahead and made 'sport' mode, sporty.

Wonder how much further Livernois plans to go with their PB tune?
