Make sure the oil is GF-6 rated. Most are GF-5. Just a heads up in case you don’t run motorcraft oil.

Any oil that meets the Ford WSS-M2C961-A1 spec, as shown above. I'm going to change out my oil after 500-1000 mi using Castrol Edge 5w-30 (which meets that spec) and the OEM filter. The Castrol oil is full synthetic, and I believe the oil from the factory is partial synthetic (of course, to save cost on a $70k truck).

Mine will get whatever bulk oil the dealer carries. I've been doing the same since the 90's when I quit screwing around doing it myself. I get zero self satisfaction changing oil. All I do is check the dipstick when they get done.

The most important thing in world is that first oil change (Do it near 1000 miles)

YOU MUST MAKE SURE on first change that filter is removed and truck is totally drained COMPLETELY!!!

Failure to do so will allow metal break-in shavings to stay and cause you headaches in future.

This advice is one of most important you can ever receive, seriously. There are also oil filters with magnets to assist If you wanna spend a few bucks.

You’d be wrong. Engines still create initial shavings and you wanna justify leaving those in your engine as completely harmless seems pretty ignorant. I’d suggest you get mechanic advice and let him explain.

EVEN IF you leave some shavings behind after initial change/breakin and it does not end up hurting anything, doesn’t change the validity and cautious advice to the whole of all of us.

After break-in, I’m going with full synthetic. Over the years I have used all knds of oil & no issues. I started long ago with Moble 1 & Pennnzoil Full Synthetic - never had engine issues. I do go with cheap oil filter either.

Likewise, I do not exceed 5K before changing oil. I seen all the oils out there - promising 10K, 50K, once a year etc... I'm set in my way - (earned it) and staying with every 5K.

1000% agree. Its amazing how well an engine will hold on good oil change discipline.

How about a Ford certified tech for 45 years. All at the same dealer. My father in law who has passed away. He broke me of that (your) habit.

Now you can't change oil too often and if you sleep better at night because of it, do it. But don't say you must in CAPS because you don't.

You can get a Ram 8 year unlimited mileage warranty and keep the engine under warranty doing the first oil change when the oil change indicator says to but not to exceed 10,000 miles. So if they are going to warranty an unlimited mile engine and not changing the oil at 1,000 miles will doom the engine, don't you think they'd want that oil out at 1,000 miles?

Like I said, if you feel the need to do it, great. It's not a MUST.

I'm fixing to get my oil changed on my new truck somewhere between 3,500 and 5,000 miles depending on my mood this spring. My GT500 will get the oil changed once a year.

Apparently you just rant and don‘t read. I am clearly talking about the very first oil change (breaking engine in), not the life of the truck, in my initial post you’re ranting on.

Geez dude.
