Payload vs Max Tow

Yes! And I totally blew my chance at the dealer where 2 XLT's with absolutely everything equal, but one max tow and one regular tow. I only took pics of the window stickers and yellow payload stickers! If only I got the dang white stickers. The boring carbonized gray one is gone and they only had the cool guard one I test drove still there as of sunday.

Could you please post those window stickers and yellow payload stickers?

The config difference is Maxtow and 20" wheels. The payload difference is 129# (1831 - 1702). The 36gal fuel tank is 83#, Maxtow-Regulartow is 15#, and those wheels are 34#. That is from the esource book. Sum of those 3 individual things is 132#. So the gap makes sense.

Thanks, Hybrid looks nice, didn't want the first year of the hybrid, needed more payload for my trailer, didn't want the big F250 with the death wobble issues.

1485 Payload, 12,400 Towing

1485 for a well loaded out PB Max Tow is very encouraging. I'll be jumping for joy if I'm around 1450 for my KR. I swap the power tailgate for your sunroof, and kept the standard 18" wheels, but do have the max recline seats. I guess I'll know in 3-4 weeks. If I'm in the 1450 range I may be able to hit the 12,400 with an enclosed racecar trailer, since I'm always alone going to race track. But aftermarket stuff like the spray-in bed liner and a bed cover will eat into that a bit, but I'm looking at the Lomax cover which is easy to remove and store. Thanks for posting your stickers.

Making sure I'm thinking right, ditching the max tow for the tow package on a PB is even more so a no brainer, since you only get the bigger brakes and bumper. But, you will still always be limited by the payload on a full decked out Lariat so the ~1000 tow capacity doesn't matter.

One thing to consider on the Max tow is 1) the 36 gal gas tank is a game changer. I get about 9-10 mpg when towing, that let me tow 200+ miles between fill ups and 2) The hitch is upgraded to 1400 lbs. The Tow package and Std F150 is 1000 lb hitch weight. If you take a TT with 7500 GVWR and figure 13% hitch weight, you are at 975 lbs. Not alot of wiggle room there. I have an '21 XLT - 3.5 EB, Max Tow and 302A Pkg, no moon roof and std running boards. My Payload is 1743. My tongue weight is 760 lbs on a TT with a 7995 GVWR. I did weigh it today and it came in at 6885 lbs with the 760lb hitch weight ( I have a hitch scale). Last thing, the GVWR is calculated with a 200 lb drive and a full tank of gas.

Ford changed the game in 24'. 36 gallon tank is now standard unless it's a PB. Unfortunately they are getting heavier. My payload on a XLT 302A 5.0 with a 5.5 bed is 1720. I was looking at two identical trucks one black and the other antimatter blue. The black one has max tow. It has close to 60 lbs less payload. The last two Lariats I owned had a 3.5 with max tow and laughable payload. This time I researched the hell out of max tow. The most I ever pull is 6200lbs. I thought towing my boat around I needed max tow. I called an old customer of mine (I get my X plan from) that's a Ford engineer. When I asked about max tow and the weight of my boat he replied it is "MAX" tow. If you are going to tow the most the truck can handle you need max tow. In 24' you can only get it with a 5.0. I became skeptical when they removed it from the 3.5. I opted for a little more payload that I have already more than ate up with tonneau cover, spray in liner, and tow mirrors. The large gas tank is nice. I opted for the 5.0 with 3:73. The more expensive and heavier these trucks get the people that need to do truck stuff really need to do research.

My bad, I was looking at threads trying to determine why my front axle weight rating is lower than I have seen posted on this forum. I thought I looked at the date before responding. thanks for the info on the 2024's and corrected info on hitch weight. I'm on some Travel Trailer forums and its amazing that many posters just take the dealer hitch weight and think they are good to go on pulling a 10k trailer....
