Hello All, quick question about payload.
I'm buying some tile on the weekend - will a skid fit between the wheels wells of a short bed?
The weight of the tiles will be between 1150 and 1380lbs

The payload sticker on my door is 1460 lbs. Anything I should do to prep the truck to carry it, premium fuel? increase tire psi? Will be hauling it about 300km

Thanks!

Well, unless you weight less than 6 stone, you should hope for the lighter end of the skid weight.:p

Any possibility you could borrow or rent a utility trailer? It wouldn't take much of one to easily handle that load and then you'd have less risk of being over weight.

You have nothing to worry about. Yes it will fit, yes your weight is fine.

I’d make sure your PSI is good and send it!

I do have a utility trailer and yes it will do 2000 lbs all day long, however I wanted to haul something in the bed that was somewhat significant.

I’d air up close to the max, but allow room for expansion when it gets hot. Say 45ish? The maximum says 51 because at 51 that’s the PSI required to handle the maximum load for that tire. Unless I’m wrong lol

You are going to have some serious squat, contrary to what everyone is stating…you won’t be “good and dandy” but it’s just barely doable. She will be on the axle stops or close to it. Did this with my dads F-250 that has double the leaf springs our F-150s do and even that squatted a crap ton. Take it slow around corners etc. and post pics!

Yeah the max payload is very conservative. I wouldn't hesitate to put that 1400lbs of tile plus some extra in.

Seen many overloaded F-150 over the years. It won't be a happy truck, but it will do the job. Be careful with braking and curves. I agree trailer is better or hope you are at the lower end of the posted weight range.

It’ll do just fine lol. The payload warriors have most likely never had more than 1k lb in the back.

Actually I have and can say that there is a pretty fine line between a truck load of rock and broken springs.

And I've made that, Oh, its just a few miles and I'll go slow,, argument to myself too, while I lean forward in the seat, hoping it keeps the front wheels down enough to steer.

That crap only happens when you either don't know what the weight you're putting on is, or are willing to push the limits and I've done both.

No more and I sure as hell am not going to advise anyone else to take those same chances, with their 50K or better truck, that they might need to go to work in, the next day.

I've had my truck over payload twice (once knowingly, other time didn't realize it until after the fact) and it wasn't on the bump stops. There wasn't a lot of room left for rest suspension travel, but there was some.

OP, if it's a short trip, I don't see any issues for you.
