The oil fill location is a pain. I ended up adding a tube to a funnel then bungie cording and clamping the funnel to the hood hinge and running the tube to the fill. It's a little slow to fill but at least you don't have to lean into the engine bay, hold the funnel and pour the oil all at the same time.

Between the drain plug issue the filter issue and the fill issue this thing’s a pain in the butt!

I’m almost thinking something like this might work good for the Fill issue.

Saw this on a post for a 3.5.

Looks like this would help that angle on the fill neck of the 5.0 too.

Both of those should work fine.

My only concern would be how much the funnel tapers.

And if it would impede the oil flow making it to slow.

I can tell you having dealt with this crap twice now on the oil filter drain… I’m going to be designing a new one and 3D printing it to funnel everything out the front like Ford should have done in the first place. Complete garbage.

Let us know what you come up with.

I have a 21 with the 5.0L and I wrap some aluminum foil around the crossmember and small bracket before removing the drain plug. It keeps the oil out of the crossmember. I also stick a small funnel in the opening below the rear drain tray hole to prevent the oil from collecting on the fiber shield before removing the oil filter.

So I picked up the fumoto drain valve and that makes draining the oil a snap. I’ve ran them in my other vehicles and to me is a no brainer.

As for the oil filter its bringing me back to the days of changing the oil on my ‘94 SHO. Oil would drain onto the starter coil and whatever the coil end cap was made out of the oil didn’t play well with it. Everytime I took the car for a wash it wouldn’t start after I parked it. I ended up figuring it out and made a shield for the starter coil so that the oil would drip around it when changing the filter.

Unfortunately I went through three starters before I put the pieces together.

I changed my oil 2 weeks ago with ramps for the front wheels. All the oil came out the back of the filter drain pan. The problem is it is impossible to get the tray totally clean. After i took it off the ramps i had to put a container underneath front and back of oil filter drain because it would drip for awhile. Next time i will put something under the filter to catch the oil. The tray is to much of a pain.

The oil has two drain paths. Best practice is to unscrew the filter until it just begins to drain and stop. All of the oil will drain from the rear drain path. Once that stops, unscrew the filter completely. Any oil remaining in the filter will follow the forward most drain path.
Easy peasy.
