Dealer just notified me that my 2021 f150 xlt 157” is scheduled for the week of November 8th. Prior to him telling me this I emailed asking if it would be wise to submit an order for a 2022 model as they are scheduled to be built starting November 15th. They told me my truck was scheduled for nov 8th and that Canada won’t be allocated many 2022 model orders so more than likely we wouldn’t see a 2022 model until the spring time. I have been reading up about the 2022 models and noticed they’re offering a black appearance package which I’d be interested. I am not necessarily thrilled about receiving a 2021 model when the 2022 models are being built shortly after and I’d be losing a whole calendar year on 2021 model. What is everyone’s thoughts ?

From what I have read on the new 2022 F 150's is that there will be little change because of the big change the 2021's went through. Other than maybe lights and color options. I did a quick compare of the 2021 and 2022 equipment listing and other than adding the black out package and color delete, what little there is is in the higher packages.

Yea I don’t think very much will change for the 2022 models, the black appearance package just caught my eye with the black bezel headlights which I really liked on the lariat models, and the black wheels. I ordered my truck September 6th so I thought for sure it wouldn’t get accepted as a 2021 model as I was told it would be around a 6 months wait. I’m giving up a calendar year but I also don’t know if I want to risk ordering a 2022 model and having it take 7+ months to arrive.

My XLT is a great truck. I am enjoying driving it and learning all the teck on board. I don't think you will be sorry with your 2021 and will be happy you waited for it.

I’ll more than likely stick with the 2021, it was an absolute hassle getting this 2021 ordered, went through about 6 dealers before getting one to honour employee pricing. Don’t think I want to have to finalize a spec sheet and pricing for a 2022 model now.

I have 21 and 22 both on order, if 21 shows up on time and all incentives honored I will go for it, then look for 2023 model in a year

Sincere question - what's the logic in buying a new truck every year?

You can't get the 157" in the black appearance package for 2022.

I have the same configuration with the same build date as you. Mines to be built in dearborn so i was skeptical about receiving a build week for the last week of 2021 production. Seeing how they pushed back the order cut off for 2021's by a few weeks, I'm hoping they'll go over their end build date to keep producing the 2021's on order. But if your scheduled for Kansas City they don't stop 2021 production until December 5.

also from the 2022 order guide

I had this thought too. I did a KBB value on the first and second year Gen 13 F-150 for comparison, the 2nd year truck with everything else staying the same has right at a $1k higher trade in value. That should be a similar comparison in the Gen 14 five years from now. I actually think in the real world it could be less of a difference - 10 years from nobody is going to be searching out a 2022 F-150, they will be buying what best fits their needs and is available at the time they are looking to purchase.

Now there is value in getting use of the truck months earlier. Only you can decide if that $1k or so is worth it to you for the few extra months of use you get.

mines a spade white, 5.0 v8, 157”, xlt 302A, sunroof, bose sound system, tow mirrors, 360 cam, bed liner. Dealer never actually told me where it was being built yet but I assume it’s in Michigan which I think is set to start building the 2022 models on Nov 15
