I feel like I knew all that from your earlier posts curry, and I still found it very helpful.

In the future, I will know to order stock if they will let me. As I placed the order 10/14, I was on the fence about asking if I could switch it to stock thinking OKTB was just around the corner. Should have known that was wishful thinking.

Thank you sir for taking the time to spell that out for me! Sounds like the 6 weeks I was giving is unrealistic.
Yep, I'm afraid so. If they manage to hit OKTB new week my guess would be 10 weeks from then. That is just me guessing.

First off, we have several first time posters and I want to welcome you to this site and for coming out of the shadows.

I'm not an administrator, just a member that had some time. I enjoy this site, and what little I know, I want to try and pass on also. I have ordered 3 new trucks in the past 6 years and not a lot has changed, well, Covid has put a wrench in things for sure.

I'm going to try and answer to best of my knowledge.

If you've been reading, then you know the dealer must have allocations before Ford will pick his order up.

The order number is only good to the dealer, means nothing to Ford

The priority code the dealer assigns to your order, it is to determine if it is a stock or retail order and in what sequence those are to be built for the dealer. Best I understand it.

Jazroc56
No way I know to see if they have allocations, other than ask them.

The BIG ONE here is STOCK vs RETAIL!!!

OKTB- OK To Build

Allocations- A dealer gets a number each (2 weeks I think but could be monthly) of how many trucks he can order during that time period. He can still place the order but Ford will not pick it up until they have an allocation. Some allocations are for certain options, like diesel, hybrid etc. So he could have a truck allocation but not one with a hybrid.

Retail Orders-These are orders pre-sold/customer orders. Can not be clean scheduled till OKTB is achieved.

Stock Orders- Dealer orders for their lots to sell to anyone. Can be built anytime and therefore the only orders that will be scheduled and built till OKTB is achieved.

The dealer can order a stock order for a customer, nothing illegal about it. You can not track stock orders on the Ford tracking site (https://shop.ford.com/vehicleordertracking#/) which uses your VIN. You can only get that info from you dealer and someone said the Ford call site. You dealer is the best place for that though.

Around the week of your build you can check for your window sticker here (http://www.windowsticker.forddirect.com/windowsticker.pdf?vin=1FTFX1EG5JKC17552) just put your VIN where the last 17 digits are. That is good for Retail and Stock.

Retail orders can not look in ETIS(https://www.etis.ford.com/) till around the week of your build to check the options and some other info you get there. Stock orders never.

For a stock order, if your dealer had allocations when he placed your order, you should have a VIN in about a week.

For a retail order, AFTER OKTB is achieved and he has allocations, you should have a VIN in about a week. If you don't get a VIN after a couple of weeks then they didn't have allocation or didn't place the order at all, something like that is up.

So, at the beginning of a MY (Model Year), if you want you truck fast, you need a stock order. Other wise you are waiting for the plant to be up and running at speed and proficiency.

Once OKTB is achieved, retail orders have priority over stock orders.

That is it and as plain as I know to spell it out.

I hope this helps some

phew, my hands are tired...

Thanks Kyle and others, I know you appreciate my efforts and happy to help anyone here that I can and in no way felt any disappointment or anger aimed at me. I feel everyone's frustration and just trying to get info out that I can, to maybe help to some degree.

I really appreciate all your information. Because of this forum I had changed my order from the 5.0 to the powerboost. My order is listed as a stock order. My dealer ordered my truck in both stock and retail. Whichever one was pulled first he was going to cancel the other one.

Are there risks in getting one of the trucks that are produced before OKTB? Like is it more likely to have recalls because not all the kinks were worked out? Trying to decide if I should try to convince my dealer to order stock vs retail.

Man, my dealer said there is no way to lock in. Get delivery of the vehicle then see what's available. Starting to thing that isn't right......

No complex pieces on my truck and they still won’t build it ?

AMB Platinum 701A Carmelo 5.0 and E-locker 3.31 - no FX4, no Sunroof, no max recline, no work surface...

What is this word... patience... never heard of it.
Although not listed anywhere as 'unavailable', I have not yet seen a Platinum populate on the Ford Inventory site with Carmelo interior. Every single one has Unique Black. Not saying that is the holdup, but until we get confirmation Carmelo is being built, it might be the issue.

My dealer gave me certain rebates and incentives and said any rebates or incentives that were added from now till delivery would be added on top of the initial rebates and incentives.

Not really at this point.

The initial builds are looked at very closely and issues get found but the fix can slow down that order. None go out without passing all the QC requirements.

At this point in the game they are very close to OKTB and production is speeding up closer to the normal production speed. They have been producing the new vehicle since early Sep. So the production issues should have been resolved by now.

The issue with submitting a Stock order now is, if they go OKTB, say, in the next 10 days, then retail orders will have priority and there you sit with a stock order.

The conventional thinking is that the initial stock builds will go through a higher level of quality control and inspections before being released. Once Ford engineers are comfortable that the line is operating free of mistakes and the trucks are being flawlessly built, they will give the OKTB.

So, are you taking a chance on a stock order being built prior to OKTB? Maybe, but the odds are that it's more of a hand's on build and less likely to have errors in fit/finish etc.

Recalls are recalls, and they won't figure those out during initial production.

You beat me to it.
I am a little new to using this site for a response so bear with me while I try and provide my experience with my dealer.

I placed an order last week for a Limited, Powerboost. I had a 2500$ certificate from Ford, 500$ cash and if I financed with Ford there would be another 1000$ off. They said that when I placed the order it Freezes the offers even the delivery went past the expiration date. They also said that if Ford added additional incentives I would be eligible to take advantage of them. Needless to say my fingers are crossed that all that happens. I hope all of that is true. I would also recommend you sit down with your dealer and confirm all of that. I have purchased 6 vehicles from this dealer and I also the owner is a personal friend as well as my salesman. Having said that the offers should be the same to orders placed within the expiration date.

Good Luck

First welcome to the Forum! Second, Roll Tide! Lol

I've heard similar and don't doubt it, I would still have it in writing on my purchase order. Also, not sure if they can on a stock order but probably a retail. Would be nice to know that.

Also
I found this cool video of the 2011 MY truck production, you can see what they are probably doing right now at Dearborn. Of course they would have on mask though.

I actually emailed my dealer today to drop the Carmelo color seats and towing mirrors. Review videos made me change my mind.
