No Catalytic Converter Sheilds For Ford Trucks

I have looked everywhere in Harris County for a place that sells sheilds for cat converters with zero results. All are for Tundras and Toyota cars. Someone is missing out on a gold mine if they had some material and a few tools. With all the machine shops and metal fab shops in Houston you would think someone is out there looking for the work.

I also put a Talon’s Garage on my 22 FX4. They’re located in NW Houston. Installation was a bit of a pain for me but it was my fault for attaching the “wings” on wrong … twice. I also dropped one of the mounting tabs for the plastic fiber cover in the frame rail which took some time and creativity to get out.

Need to buy the RCI transmission plate and the cat guard pieces for a total cost of $490 plus shipping. My Toyota and Chevy 4WD trucks all had a shield under the catalytic converter to prevent brush fires. This should not be an add-on item for a factory 4WD truck, much less for one with rock shields installed by the factory.

The Cat Clamp and Cat Strap devices will only take a thief with a cordless cut-off tool an addional 30 seconds to cut through so not really a deterent.

California has a new law that requires anyone selling a used catalytic converter to will force auto recyclers and used parts dealers to document where they are getting catalytic converters from. Thieves will have to take them out of the state to sell them.

RCI's stuff is excellent. I just finished installing their full kit, including trans shield with Cat shields attached. Fits great, pretty easy install.

Raptor transmission plate is the bargain offering. $220-ish shipped usually, plus a few of the fasteners and captive nuts needed.

Catalytic converter thefts are way down in my county in Texas.

The new ordinance in Houston requires people to show ownership of the car for cut cats to the scrap yards/ metal recyclers before selling. The majority of scrap yard/recyclers quickly fell in line and stopped buying from the thieves. Police also recently conducted raids across multiple states and counties and busted a bunch of people and companies involved. While it's not completely gone it's gotten a lot better. Still may be worth preventative measures like high temp paint, engraving the vin on the converter casing, or other theft deterrent methods.
