I was rotating my tires on my 22 Platinum two weeks ago and noticed one of my rear axle nuts was sheared. Called my local dealership and was told I needed to schedule an appointment for them to document the issue and request repair parts. Just dropped it off this morning.
They have to supply a picture of the missing/sheared bolt from the axle, in order for the parts request to be fulfilled.

For me the part(s) were next day delivered. I don't know how common that is for most dealerships. My dealership isn't far from Houston Texas.

Curious and seeking some help on this issue. Been watching the threads on this since inception. Last couple weeks I have had some squealing at low speeds and when turning coming from the rear end. Sound is louder at low speed and even louder when braking. Had my wife drive around our neighborhood while I stood on the side of the road to try to ascertain proximity of the sound. It’s all in the back end of the truck.

I have pulled the center caps twice checking for sheared bolt. No dice. I have not put any torque on it though…

Brakes inspected today during oil change no issues reported.

Going in tomorrow for the “inspection” to see if the recall applies.

I have read the entire thread and noise explanations seem to align with what I am experiencing. Has anyone had this issue and the bolts were not sheared? Or maybe not sheared yet? Or at least visually it appears the bolt is still in tact?

Appreciate any advice.

Will be curious to see if the dealer has any idea on the squealing. I'm guessing they'll say it doesn't apply though as the check is looking for the sheared bolts.

I've had the same squealing issue for quite awhile now but it is intermittent and near as I can tell not brake related. Did check to see if the sound changed or went away in 4WD vs 2WD but didn't notice a difference. Fairly annoying but not enough that its worth taking in to the dealer.

I have had a rubbing type noise the last few months. I removed the caps but the bolts were intact. The truck has 42,000 miles on it.
There have been posts of the front or rear differential requiring service/rebuilt because of bad bearings. To me, my current noise is more like a bad bearing, but when one of my bolts broke it gave a similar noise.

Just wanted to add to this thread. Went the past Thursday for the "works" tire rotation and oil change and to have my lower windshield cowl replace under warranty due to warping. at that time she mentioned I had a recall and it was for the axle bolts which we all know.

While waiting, service called me back and told me my truck was undriveable and not road worthy. I asked for what reason and was told one of my axles had an issue. I asked if it was related to the recall and she said yes. So at 35,960 miles, one of my axle bolts failed.

According to the paperwork, it appears they replaced both axles which i guess i'm glad they did.

I'm convinced there is no fix and Ford is waiting for the problem trucks to just die off. Just hit 100k in my 2021 so maybe one less recall for them to fix soon if they keep kicking it down the road a quarter at a time.

Absolutely, no rhyme or reason to the recall process.

Does anyone know what Ford did differently for the 24 axles?

I recently contacted Ford again and have been in contact with my dealer. With the period during which the issue was to be investigated and a final fix developed and applied (more than one year), the quantity affected (about 100,000), and the now increasing ages of the vehicles affected, I am pessimistically coming around to the belief that tcp above is correct and Ford, through interim repairs to broken bolts or replacing axle shafts, is simply trying to run out the clock until the number of vehicles still affected becomes zero through age, trade-ins, accidents, etc.

Timing is a heck of a thing, although I suppose so are recurring repairs. My dealer originally had three -- black, silver, and blue, and sold the other two over the past six months. It seems mine was just too late in the process. I don't expect to ever be able to take delivery. Bummer.

FWIW I did the same and visually they looked fine. Snapped the center cap off. Snapped it back on When I put a wrench on it they came off in my hand with almost no pressure. Almost like they had just enough thread to stay in place, but still snapped inside. Put a socket on the bolt and give it some torque. Might be just hanging in place with about 2-3 threads holding on.
