The more I look at it, I think they may have grabbed the wrong axle housing for that graphic. There is no way to attach the hubs to that axle.
Your right. I may be entirely over-reaching what can be concluded from these diagrams in ford.parts.com.

The recall affects trucks built up to Dec 25, 2022.

What changed on 2023 models built after Dec 25, 2022?

I just bought 2023 powerboost with max trailer tow package and build date of April 2023 and it is not under the recall.

Looks like it's changed to 3 bolts from 4.

The axle to hub pressure now looks to be coming from the new parts with the likes-to-shear bolt being done away with entirely.

Based on experience with other brands, Recalls can be extended to include vehicles not originally involved or targeted with the recall.

Welp add me to the list. Thought i may have gotten lucky. Went on a quick run up to the grocery store and heard a squeak from the passenger rear.

According to the recall, if the bolt shears, the hub cannot depart the vehicle. Hence, the culprit bolt is not there to retain the hub. Earlier I asked how the hub is retained, sounds like only the bearing assy is sufficient without the bolt. Please someone enlighten me :)

The wheel is bolted to the hub. The hub is bolted to the axle tube with 4 huge bolts.

The Bolt that shears is just a "locator" bolt for the relationship of the two mating splines. Keeps the axle from working its way inboard about 3/4".

Ok maybe I am not using the proper wording then. The rotating part that has 6 studs, on which my wheel is bolted, - that part - cannot be bolted to the axle tube. Else it could NOT rotate! So, what is it that holds that rotating part when the bolt (subjected to the recall) breaks?

Just FYI / further info .... the "Hub Assembly" (with 'captive' wheel flange) pictured above is considered by Ford to be a 'non-serviceable' part. The Workshop Manual has no procedure for separating the flange from the hub, no procedure for maintaining or adjusting bearing(s) within the hub, no procedure for separately replacing the integral toothed ABS 'tone ring' seen on the inboard side of the assembly above.

IOW, if the bearings or any other part of that assembly are damaged or out of spec, the entire assembly as pictured is to be replaced.

EDIT - the wheel mounting studs can be replaced (press out/in) separate from the rest of the assembly as pictured.

on a related note, if the axle bearing goes bad in the future, it seems easy to change. Buy the hub assembly with the axle bearing already in it. Remove 4 hub bolts and 1 axle bolt then the whole hub assembly comes out.

I truly appreciate your explanation. Bearing play can only be detected when axle bolt is absent. Therefore, if bearing have some play, it will cause an undue stress on the axle bolt.
