The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the recall affects F-150 vehicles with model years 2021 through 2023 that are equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package for potentially faulty rear axle hub bolts.

Finally! I haven't had my bolts break yet, but by the looks of things it will just be a matter of time before they do.

“A fix is “currently under development,”” - I thought the haft shafts replacement was the fix?
LOL….that's now the “interim repair”.

Recall? Why? What's the point? If there is no known solution, what is the point of the recall? What are the techs at the Ford dealerships going to do - put the truck up on the rack and stare at it?

Or maybe (read: hopefully) Ford is further along with a solution than what they have let on....

I would think Ford is and has been quite well aware that their max tow axle was poorly designed and they had previously designed max tow axles that performed. Why they launched this design for Gen 14……who knows but likely some cost saving analysis by Ford.

And those owners that were out of warranty now have standing that the very least get the “interim repair” at no cost or question.

Recalls have nothing to do with warranty and are fixed for free.

Correct. But up until this recall announcement there have been owners that paid to get their axles and bolt replaced. That can’t happen now

Funny how the NHTSA worries about the possible failure of a rear axle component but could care less about occupants falling out of Gen 13 150 in cold climate areas because the doors freeze up and fail to latch properly.

Guess that’ll be the second recall for me, whenever they get parts and decide to schedule..

retired!
IMO this is very encouraging news, escalation of the issue to formal NHTSA Recall status is great.

Yep, it may take time for things to fully play-out, but IMO this very likely means a whole other level of attention and follow-through to the situation.

I'd long wondered how many trucks have been produced with the Max Tow package, this notice gives the answer (~113,000) through ~12/25/2023.

Yippy now I have 3 recalls I have to bring my truck in to have them look at it and then order the parts so I can bring my truck back in so they can fix it. Obviously they won't be able to do all three at the same time, that would be good customer service. Will most likely take 6 trips to the horrible dealer to fix now three recalls. Don't even get me started on "battery is fine" and it's normal to go in power saving mode.

Very happy to see this. As someone who recently went out of warranty, this has really been my only concern.
