Hey Everyone! I am looking into purchasing a 2020 or 2021 F150 in the coming days. I already have a 2020 F350 Tremor with the 7.3 and I love it. However my company just purchased me a new F250 with a 6.7. I really don't need my F350 anymore. I've decided to trade in my F350 and buy a new F150. I seen that my local dealership has some pretty good deals on F150's but they have the 2.7 and 5.0 motors. It's been a while since I've owned an F150 and need some help figuring out what Motor to go with? I know everyone likes the 3.5 however the trucks I'm looking at only have these 2 particular motors available. If you had to choose from the 2 motors I stated which do you think I would be better off with and why? Thanks in advance for the help!

the upside is,
nearly the HP of the EB3.5 without having forced air.
turbos and being tuned near the max of it’s capabilities just bothers me a bit.
not that I am in the habit of running on the edge, but I may get there occasionally.

I chose the 5.0 because:
1. pickups need v8s
2. too many years of having both big blocks and small blocks with no regard to fuel mileage
3. Normally aspirated—less stuff to fail over the next 20 years.
4. I like the growl of a v8

I have the 2.7 and I love it. Smoked my buddies 2020 AT4 with the 6.2 in a drag race too. It all depends on what you plan on using it for. If you have a 250 for work, it sounds like you are just looking for a daily since you already have a tow rig. Therefore, I’d go with the engine that gets the better gas mileage, which would be the 2.7

I have the 5.0, and love it!! As the others say, it really depends on how you are going to use it.

2021 F150 on order
my 2.7 is awesome. Haven't had many trucks, had a 2017 Canyon, then got a Gensis g70 with a 2L turbo. The 2.7 ecoboost in an f150 feels quicker than the genesis did which supposedly did 0-60 in 5.5. I think some of that might be because the 2.7 has better throttle response and less lag when pressing the peddle but regardless its got all the pep you need, especially since you will already have something to tow with (although I am sure this will tow small loads great). Gas mileage is about 11L/100km vs the Genesis which was 9.5L/100km so not that bad really.

Last time I checked Mr. Simon, the 5.0l and the 3.5l produce an identical 400hp. Maybe I miss read it, or it was outdated info?

3.0 Power Stroke with a 3:31 rear axle.

You can get 30 mpg highway. Around town aint shabby either. Diesel fuel prices vary and I have seen them the same as high test gas. 40 cents more for diesel is basically $10.40 more a fillup than 87 octane, but youre getting more mpg.

I did the math. It is a $3800 upgrade for the powerstroke over the 2.7l. If you assume all highway miles, the 2.7L getting 24mpg and the powerstroke getting 30mpg, and 30,000 miles a year (which most people will never hit), then it would take 7.5 years for the diesel to pay for itself. 15 years at 15,000 miles, so not really worth it unless you do a lot of Highway mileage.

Also OP only has the option for the 2.7L and the 5.0L so there is that...

Edit: this is also assuming a $0.26 per gallon cost difference which is the difference near me

I went with the 5.0 and never looked back. Feels so good to be driving a V8 again.

I went with a 2.7L and could not be more pleased with my decision. I was coming from a Toyota Tacoma that was just getting too small for hauling the family around.

I was looking at 3.5L, 502A packages for a good bit, but then did some analysis, and settled on a 2.7L, 501A with the few extra goodies that I cared about (CO-Pilot Assist 2.0, 360 camera, and Tow package). This saved me over $6k from the 3.5L configurations around my area. The biggest option I gave up was dynamic bending headlights. I didn't want the added cost of tire packages, moon roof, FX4, etc. In the 3.5L around here, they all had the extras that are certainly nice, but just not day-to-day practical for what I need. The 2.7L I was able to find was configured with what I cared about most and will meet my current and future needs for a long time.

5.0 for the sound, but don't think you'd go wrong with either. Why the change from the tremor? Better mpg, comfier ride? I'd love a 7.3 tremor at least I think I would never driven one.

I may have misread, or I looked at an early spec sheet.
I ordered in August, and did not do a lot of looking after.
may have even looked at the 2020 specs.
But, I am polish, so anything could have brought me to that assumption.
At any rate, 400 for a souped up factory 6, or 400 for a detuned Mustang GT engine. One can live life on the edge, and the other will most likely never get close to the edge.

Unless you are having a problem with parking in the F350, or you’re afraid of higher gas prices or it’s a lemon. just stick with the F-350, so much is similar between the two trucks that it doesn’t make sense to take the depreciation hit to swap trucks. Especially since you can’t get the 7.3 in the F-150!
