I'd go with the block heater over the oil pan heater. It heats the coolant instead of the oil. The thought of the possibility of cooking the oil is no bueno. The 'oil cooler' interacts with the oil at the filter so you get all of the benefits w/out the risk. Given the heat output of the block heater, use a current rated timer to turn it on ~2hrs before driving.Switched over to synthetic 5W-30 oil for improved cold start performance. Considering adding an oil pan heater for the days it gets colder. With the turbos I’m leaning towards staying with the 5W over the 0W since there aren’t a ton of days below -20.
