I'm trying to do a few updates on my F150 and cannot get the cable to connect to my truck.

I've tried both the 1.18 and 1.20 drivers, two different laptops and even two different cables with no luck.

Has anyone had a similar issue and if so how did you resolve it? I'd rather not be reliant on the dealer if possible.

Have you tried running the support diagnostics in the J2534 Toolbox (downloadable from the Opus/IVS website) to make sure that the cable itself is working properly/communicating correctly with the laptop and the truck? If not you should start there.

I’m not sure what you mean by the 1.18 and 1.20 drivers. The only Mongoose driver I’m aware of is 1.0.18.0, which should have been installed when you first set up the Mongoose.

The cable updates from the toolbox, both did. Opus support pointed me to the new driver and emailed it over. Still not working.

I used a second laptop with just FDRS installed and the Opus driver. Still same issues.

It will connect and see the voltage but not pull the vin or connect with either the toolbox or FDRS.

Am I missing additional software? I only installed FDRS.

Install the VCI software, in addition to FDRS. https://www.fordtechservice.dealerc...ds/diagnosticsites/vcmdvd/mcs/idssoftware.asp

When you run the Vehicle Check diagnostic in the J2534 Toolbox, what does the status column say for the ISO 15765 11 Bit protocol?

Ordinarily that would be a bad cable. If it was just failing to report a VIN, the cable should still work. But if the protocol itself is saying not active, that’s something else. You are testing with the device connected and ignition on?

In any event, this is not an FDRS issue. The cable is failing to communicate properly with its own Opus software. You might have to call Opus back.

Opos was no help. Even tried another cable. I assume it's something with the truck. Any ideas?

Try scanning with FORScan. See if any DTCs come up. If it fails to connect even with FORScan, then I’m out of ideas. By my count, you will have tried two cables, two laptops and three different programs and none will connect with your truck.

I can connect with Forscan. One DTC for the rear camera. Cleared it and tried again with mongoose no luck.

What cable connected?

Anyway, here is a real long shot. Go into Windows and in the white search box in the lower left of the screen, type Device Manager. Then select Device Manager on the next screen. Scroll to near the bottom of the list. Do you see Vehicle PassThru Interfaces and then Mongoose-Plus Ford2 J2534 Interface?

Yes it is listed. I have a feeling it's the truck.

Has anyone encountered a truck that wont connect?

It’s a Canadian truck if that matters.
