I've just set eyes on my Lariat for the first time and was doing my walk-around, rust check, etc., and noticed that unlike all the other F150s on the lot, mine does not have lower grille automatic louvers. All of the other 150s on the lot are EB or Hybrid so I can't compare to anything else here.

Anyone else here noticed this as well? Is this something that just isn't included on the V8?

Nevermind. I found an XLT with a V8 and it is set up the same way.

Question answered.

V8 is normally aspirated, so there is no intercooler.

I was so used to seeing this image that it immediately looked like something was wrong.

Clearly the image is wrong, as the real thing does not have them installed.

It does have the shutters in the upper grille in front of the radiator, the same as my Escape had. That seems to be the same on all the F150s I looked it. It was just the wide open gape of the lower grille that caught me off guard since the stock photo shows it closed off.

I thought all the 5.0's got that intercooler space filled by a black piece not left open?
The other shutters are above on radiator I think.

License plate holder will probably go in there

I just went out and looked at mine. There is a solid panel in that spot. It is not open. It is a Platinum if that makes any difference. Too dark for a picture.

The 5.0 gets the solid insert,

unless you have a block heater;

Then you get the same insert as the Eco/Powerboost trucks so that there’s access to the plug.

At least that’s how it’s supposed to be. I would imagine that the block heater is a popular option in North Dakota.

Is this the plug?

Sure looks like it!

That must be what it is then. Both mine and my point of reference truck have block heaters installed. Thank you! I'll also let my sales rep know since I had asked him about it and he was convinced they sent the trucks with the wrong inserts.

Do you happen to have access to the part number for the solid insert? If that's the only difference between them I'll swap out the insert and re-route the block heater plug. That opening just looks too unfinished in my opinion otherwise. Even with the license plate bracket installed.

as far as I can tell the part number is incomplete on the parts.ford website and a search brings up multiple models and years. The best way to get the right part would be to use the VIN from a truck with the solid insert and order that way. However, it looks like it’s on backorder.

I don’t know if it’s my browser or not but I have been having problems looking things up on parts.ford lately and it’s usually a pretty good resource.

I was having the same issue regarding the incomplete number and trying to google the available section of the number. I also noticed that there we several options listed, all without pictures of course, and that most of them showed that they were backordered. I'll have to find someone who has purchased a Lariat 502A V8 w/o block heater on here and see if I can "borrow" their VIN to find the proper plate part number.

Or I suppose I could just ask the parts dept when I go pick up my truck on Tuesday.
