A friend of mine is asking me a few questions about his build and hoping someone here can answer the questions because I'm not sure.

Q1: I looked on Fords brochure for a 21 F150 and it states that the max payload is 1830 lbs. Curious how much less a Limited is.
Q2: how much more a Platinum is payload vs a Limited?

Unlike years past, when the Limited came with a unique powertrain, the 2021 Limited is an trim/options package only, offering the same powertrain options as the other F-150's in the line. For this reason, the towing and payload should be the same/similar to other similarly configured models in the lineup. However, until Ford releases the full config tool with model specific numbers, we won't know for certain.

The 1830 pound payload looks correct according to the technical specifications I’ve seen too if you get the PowerBoost. If you get the standard 3.5 EcoBoost, the payload rating goes over 2000 pounds.

The Limited and Platinum trims will have nearly all of the options built into them. I could be wrong, but I don’t think that would affect the final payload rating any significant amount from what Ford initially lists.

Also note, the Limited trim is only available in the SuperCrew configuration with the 5.5 foot bed, while the Platinum can have a 5.5 or 6.5 foot bed. The different bed lengths will have different payload ratings.

Here is the link for the tech. specs. I referenced. Page 7 lists the SuperCrew payload ratings.

One other thought might be tires - Limited has the 22” and depending on tire specs that could be the limiting factor on payload.

There may be more differences, check the standard equipment in the Order Guide (attached), for example the Platinum (and KR, Lariat etc.) lists "Two-Speed Automatic 4WD (4x4 only)" whereas the Limited lists "Two-Speed Automatic AWD with Mechanical Locking 4WD" ... significant difference between 4WD and AWD.

Also, the Payload rating of 1,830lbs is for a Supercrew Powerboost 4x4 Short Bed ... it says nothing about the Trim level i.e. this is Payload for an XL Trim - anything beyond this most basic trim (sunroof, power running boards, power leather seats etc. etc.) will deduct from Payload. Meaning you can expect the actual Payload of a loaded Lariat, 701A Platinum, or Limited to be very far below the stated number - think more like 1,300 to 1,400 lbs.

Just got back from test drive, here is the payload sticker of a carbonized gray limited.

hOly moly guys, if what you're saying is true, then i'm way overestimating the payload based on the spec sheet for supercrew 3.5L eco. The whole reason I'm sticking with a F150 upgrade (from 2010 KR with 1100 lbs payload) is based on that spec sheet at 2100 lbs. Otherwise, I need to start over on the F250 search to accommodate our family and camper tongue weight of 850lbs. Ergh!
