I am sure that is what happened. The nut does show signs of corrosion which I suspect is where it was in contact with the aluminum.One of the heavy truck (semi) manufacturers that I work with builds up the frame and pretty much everything but the engine, trans, cab and sleeper upside down and then has a big fixture that rolls it over before it continues down the line to get the rest added. They have to sweep up the area a few times every shift to clean up all the hardware that falls out. It's 99% stuff that was fumbled and doesn't (usually) represent something that got left off.
