Anyone know what the little plastic fairings are for? Looks like maybe some trims don’t have them but I have them on my XLT sport 2wd. Thanks!

i believe they are a mud deflector. they are there to keep the mud off the running boards. Maybe a dealer could get you the part number, should be an easy 2 bolt install.

Are you talking about the ones in front of the rear tires? If so they are air deflector, to improve fuel mileage.

@currybob was discussing those on another thread as well. I think the general consensus was that it wasn't dependent on trim level, but rather bed length. Trucks with 6.5ft and 8ft beds had them, but the 5.5ft beds did not.

I think that's what they came up with, but I can't find that thread now.

Odd. I think that is what he has as well, and he had to get them and install them after picking his up.

There goes that theory then.

Could it have anything to do with wheel to wheel running boards? I have a 5.5 box on my 21 KR and it does not have them, but I do have wheel to wheel running boards.

I think this is it.
Another fella removed his and modified them.
Reinstalled modified deflector.
Then saw that the smaller extended running board versions were available

Possibly. I don't have the extended running boards.
