How did you get in contact with a specialist? Did you just have to call Ford and work the process that way? I’ve got a great dealer but a shitty service manager, and after having my truck out of service nearly 7 weeks, I still have more than half my list uncompleted. I too do not want the hassle of a buyback but I just wanna get this thing how it should’ve been.
Calling Ford Customer Service did nothing, I eventually downloaded Twitter and tweeted something nasty @Ford and was immediately messaged for my contact info. A specialist contacted me a few days later. I'll PM you the Specialist that helped me to possibly save you the headache.

2021 Ford F150 Lariat 4x4
My 2021 F150 Lariat 4x4 (Hybrid) is randomly experiencing a noise that almost sounds like rubbing but easily confused for a throaty exhaust pipe like sound.

July 4th I left for brunch in the morning and returned home and the vehicle experienced no issues. I load up the bed of the truck with cornhole boards, foldable chairs, foldable canopy and a cooler. Nothing my rated payload of 1488lbs couldn't handle.

I started driving off and heard the strange noise. When the speed increases or decreases the tone or pitch of the sound alters. I come to a stop and get out and look all around to make sure no debris was caught and rubbing the tires or moving parts under the vehicle.

So to troubleshoot I get back into the truck and I cruise at 10mph to attempt to replicate the issue. At only 15mph or faster do I start hearing the noise come back like the nubs of a off-road tire rubbing in the wheel-well but again like a throaty exhaust sound. I return home and empty the bed of the truck and attempted to troubleshoot more. I drive the vehicle empty of items and get it above 15mph in electric mode and the issue is replicated. I was thinking to myself that the sounds are similar to the sound of a throaty exhaust pipe but I am in electric mode so this definitely is not contributed by the gas engine.

I return home once again and look under the truck for anything debris or cause to moving parts under the truck and I cannot find any. Vehicle has less than 1500 miles and has thrown a Powertrain Malfunction message on the dash mid-June but have not received that code nor experience any issues since then.

Having the vehicle towed to the dealership tomorrow for diagnosis. Has anyone experience something similar to this?

**Update Resolved**
The technician found the issue to be in the center of the vehicle. They diagnosed the issue as a humming noise from a heat shield that had come loose from the body and was rubbing on the drive shaft.

Not a big fan of knocking a manufacture hopefully this doesn't become part of a bash on FORD.

  1. Left turn signal inconsistently does not auto return when my turn is complete. I will have to have a discussion with the dealer about replicating it and getting it repaired.

its not bashing just sharing - I think the most important thing is to come back an update your lists with the resolutions once you know. This will help future owners and their conversations with Ford (and maybe help that service guy that has no clue where to start!)

Completely agree, I am a member on other forums and they are great once you get past the fanboys just bashing all other makes. The community can really help the everyday person find resolution to known issues.

I am here to learn and help when I can.

Up to 5,000 on the odo. Little plastic bracket thing that fastens the wiring harness to the mounting stud on the mirror came off and started rattling against the plastic cover. Took 10 seconds to reattach it and it's quiet again.

Might have a heat shield coming loose underneath or something. Really slight tinny sounding rattle at idle sometimes. I could probably fix that at home one night too.

Otherwise flawless. Truck tows a lot and sees a lot of dirt roads, wheels never stop turning.

Wow, and thought my truck with all the rust was bad, getting a new one from Ford in the week or so and hope for no issues as my "rusty" one has no issues other than the rust.

No, you need to realize that this is a new generation of Ford F-150's with a lot of new tech and features. Ford will stand by any issues that need fixed and get it done. Sadly with all the crap going on in the world things may not get done as fast as you want. The Ford F-150 is still a great truck and always will be. You can go to any of the other forums of other manufactures (Dodge, GMC, Chevy etc.) and you are going to find owners having issues. These are mechanical devices with moving parts and computer tech like we have never seen in the past. Things can and will happen, mine has been flawless so far and I hope yours is too
Sorry but Ford only cares about the numbers I’m going through hell with them they offered two solutions 1.) buy back at a loss to me they are deducting for everything including mileage at 70 cents a mile, condition, wear and tear, any rebates you received at time of purchase and any negative equity from a previous trade
2.) $3500 and I keep the truck with all the issues
They outright refused to replace the truck!!

So as I’ve previously stated don’t think for one minute Ford has got your back and will do the right thing they won’t in fact they’ll drag their feet all while you rack up the mileage so they can give you less
I also purchased a 73k truck and with fords buy back I’ll walk away with 60k and end up having to payoff the loan oh I’ll get my my extended warranty money back and maintenance plan money but I’m shit out of luck getting my 10k down payment I’ve been dealing with this since January 7 months of going back and forth to the dealership they’ve even had it for 25 consecutive days and yup still not fixed my two biggest issues are Electrical and the shifter it doesn’t always go into the position you want it too it’ll go into reverse but the truck doesn’t shift it sometimes will go past the park position and you smash your hand on the console

I will personally never buy a Ford again. I recommend you do the same. These trucks are riddled with issues and Ford couldn't care less. As long as they continue to be #1 sellers, Ford will never really care about customer satisfaction. They have your $$$$.

I have this! And it’s why I came to the forum and looked through 16 pages of issues (saw nothing that sounded like my issues) until of course….page 16.
I will go look at my truck this morning to see if I can see the same heat shield.
Any other guidance would be appreciated as far as where it was, what it looked like, etc

Positive- My 135 Pre-collision errors and beeping every 10 seconds was fixed after 2 dealerships and a total of 4 trips. They replaced a control module.

Negative- My pre-collision error NEVER turns off now so been without adaptive cruise, regular cruise, lane centering and the safety features that come with the camera and pre-collision since they replaced the control board going on three months ago.

The next step is to replace the front camera which is on indefinite backorder.

Fun times...

Well, you asked for it:

Dealer fixed: 0 Important to note, not their fault, dealer techs were unable to find resolutions with Ford and the engineers after two service appointments.

1: XM Hardware Fault
2: Vision system camera fault
3: Private Comm network fault
4: Left/Right mirror heater output fault
5: Battery voltage fault
6: "Reverse Brake Assist Not Available" error message
7: Recirculation on climate control randomly shuts off after a few minutes
8: Air flow through dash vents poor to non-existent if deftrost and/or floor is also selected
9: Body panel fitment poor at: tailgate, hood
10: Rear bumper offset from rear quarter panels
11: Engine has started to make excessive noise (growl/gravely) intermittently; performance is reduced when this occurs
12: Lane departure system has failed randomly
13: Center screen gets very hot, up to 123 degrees when I measured it with a thermal-imaging camera
14: Digital speedometer and dial gauge speedo are off 2 MPH from one another
15: Center screen icons (icons only, not the text) all went black today....

I have a case filed with Ford and one of their support specialists is supposed to be getting ahold of me this week (after a week delay).

What was the fix or cause for #7 and 8?
I'm having issue with #8 but cleared after turn off wait few minutes start and problem goes away.
