Let’s talk leather care

I have the new King Ranch and am wondering what and how others are planning to care for their leather seats. My last King Ranch in 2011 experienced severe cracking on the front seats after just a few years. I never treated those seats and realize the new seats are much different from 10 years ago, but want to avoid that if at all possible. There’s a ton of leather treatments out there, but would appreciate recommendations on ones you’ve used and trust.

I used Lexol for years before switching to Griot’s. I have been very happy. Currybob is the cleaning guru here (among other things). I’m sure he has some sage advice.

The Griots product is very good and in my mind the best are the Leather Master products.

I use 303 Protectant. Keeps the leather pliable and protected from UV rays.

I really like using chemical guys cleaner and conditioner, however for the first condition you do I would use a gel based conditioner like griots to build a better foundation. Then just maintain it with whatever cleaner/conditioner is your favorite.

Any good quality leather cleaner and conditioner will work. I am using pinnacle leather cleaner and then the conditioner. It’s a little more than others but I like how it performs. I stay away from anything chemical guys.​

As you and others have noted, there are many excellent leather products on the market, including some highly-regarded products below. These are especially useful for vehicles a year or older.

For new vehicles, there is another and longer-lasting option - applying a ceramic coating that is specifically formulated for automotive leather. This is exactly what I intend to apply when I receive my new truck. (I’ve already purchased the product).

Below is a review of the CarPro product, C.Quartz Leather. The video includes a description of how to clean & apply as well as the benefits of this for a new vehicle. It is presented by my favorite YouTube detailer, Pan The Organizer’. This product dries quickly, doesn’t leave a shiny coating, and maintains the same feel of the original leather as pre-application. It is supposed to provide superior protection for leather and make maintenance simpler.

My suggestion is to check out this video and do some research on your own of this product. CarPro has an excellent reputation in the industry. Best of luck!

I have been using the Zaino leather treatment, after 12 years the seats in my Tundra still looked great. I also use the Zaino polish on the exterior, it lasts much longer than any wax.
