Lariat and higher are built in Michigan?

This is a good reminder to me that most dealers dont know what they are talking about.

I don't know about "most" but the knowledge of salesmen at the dealership can vary. My salesman actually works on the Lincoln side of the dealership. He sold me my MKZ and they tend to keep their repeat customers aligned with the same salesman whenever possible. He did sell Fords when he was first hired so he seems to be pretty knowledgeable. What I do appreciate about him is when he doesn't know something he finds somebody who does rather than just trying to blow smoke up my behind.

You will know the manufacturing plant for sure once you get a VIN. The plant code is the 7th character from the end & it doesn't take a rocket scientist to decipher the code. Mine is an extended cab 145" 4x4 Lariat that will be built in my hometown.

My dealer told me today that all Lariats and higher are built in Michigan. Xl and XLTs are KC. My VIN is Michigan and I'm a Lariat build but is there any truth to this statement? Has one location been faster than the other?

I believe Platinums and Limiteds, and Raptors are only build at DTP. Could apply to Tremors too. But lower levels are build at both

Heres what I remember from going over different configs with my dealer:

Dearborn trucks only:
Powerboost, power running boards, max recline seats, Paint colors of smoked quartz and star white. Trim levels: King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, (Tremor, Raptor)?. I know the KR, Plat and Limited are Dearborn builds mostly because of the option sets that they have standard. I have not been able to confirm whether or not Tremors and Raptors are Dearborn only, but I have not seen a VIN yet with a KC Raptor or Tremor.


KC trucks only:
Space White & Guard paint colors. There is a cab/box config that's KC only as well, I just don't remember the spec - it might be 8' box with regular and extended cab trucks.

So if you are buying an XL, XLT, Lariat without specific options, it can be built either place.

King Ranch and Star White can come out of DTP or KC


DTP only

Tremor, Platinum, Raptor and Limited
Smoked Quartz and Kodiak Brown

KC only
Regular Cab
8' bed
Space White, Race Red, Guard.

KC
Regular Cab
8’ box
Snow plow prep
CNG prep
A couple of paint colors

Lariat Super cab is also built at DTP. However, a Lariat SuperCab with an 8' bed is only built at KC

PowerBoost is definitely DTP only and I’m pretty sure the diesel is DTP only as well. Really wanted a Space White PowerBoost but that of course just can’t be done…

Edit: Just tested and you can’t configure a Space White diesel, so that confirms that the diesel is DTP only.
