I currently tow a small Airstream with my '21 XLT for long distances. When traveling, the lane centering feature has worked quite well and provided a great deal of comfort on the long trips.

After recent FDRS software updates (I usually only do this once per 1 - 1.5 years), we have lost the ability to use Lane Centering when towing. When I try to activate adaptive cruise and lane centering with the trailer attached, I get the below message:

I am incredibly frustrated with this degradation of features. Does anyone know of a fix for this, or even if the IPMA software (I assume that's where the change was) can be reverted back?

Is your seat belt buckled? Not joking, it’s part of the new software.

So was your seatbelt fastened? He literally means that your seatbelt has to be fastened for lane centering to work now.

Lane centering no longer works with anything connected to the trailer plug on the latest IPMA software. There is no known way to override this other than to not use the factory brake controller / plug.

You could try to find someone to side-load an old IPMA version but it is a bit risky. Not something you can do without the old files and an advanced operation in ForScan.

You could look at OpenPilot/BluePilot, it works with a trailer and is DIY friendly. But it is a bit pricey.

Wouldn't you want to actually have full control when trailering anyway?

I'm with OP. I like these features when trailering. There is no reason not to like what I see as back office help. In saying that, periodically messages like this have appeared....yet everything actually works. Not convinced that any error messages that appear upon starting up the vehicle are actually accurate.

I ran into the same thing when towing. Still works when using a 4 pin trailer I tow but when I use the 7 pin with my trailer that has my side by side its just gives me the same message.

It's considered a safety issue because it could cause uncontrollable sway in the wrong situation but I really enjoyed the feature.

I have your VIN. Give me a bit to look into it.

That is what it sounds like. As a pilot, I know when not to engage autopilot or certain trim configurations in "turbulent" air, but I guess the MoCO has to make all of these settings for the "lowest common denominators." Like you, I knew when to and when not to use the feature. Unfortunate for us.

All the obvious stuff seems fine. I reached out to Jesse because I don't see anything wrong. He found something, but I will message you because this is not a one-size-fix-all fix so I don't want to post it publicly.
