It gets weirder... There are now TWO different flavors I have seen of the 7050# GVWR with FX4 and max tow: One where the axle ratings are 3600+3800, and one (like the image I show) where they are 3600+4150. BOTH are listed as 7050# GVWR.

To make things weirder, the 157" wheelbase gets a 3600+4150 but gets a bump in GVWR to 7150#. The Powerboost FX4 maxtow gets 3900+4150 and gets a full 7350# GVWR.

So if I were taking delivery of an EB maxtow and my rear axle is only 3800 I would question why I did not get the better axle. I think I will bump my GAWR thread and see if more owners can share white stickers.
Definitely interested in what you uncover. I want to get a 157" Sport Lariat PB. Probably won't get the max tow if it hurts my payload.. I have a 26" camper I will tow with it.

I stopped compiling the list, but I did verify that some max tow EB's came with 4150# rears and some with 3800# rears. It was not a typo. It seems they may go by the trim projected weight and get the bump if expected to be heavy.

I think somewhere there was a 157" Plat PB posted. You can see those ratings, and subtract options to estimate your payload. But it looks like all PB's get the beefy axles due to their massive curb weight.

So if max tow doesn’t guarantee the beefier axle, I’m having a really hard time leaving it on my order. I can get the 3.55 and larger fuel tank for $900 less on a platinum build. What am I missing?

I have a feeling Plat EB max tow will get the beefier axles. The King Ranch 601A sure did. Regardless of axle rating, you will get the same GVWR spec of #7050 when payload sticker is calculated. You get absolutely no credit for stronger axles. So I don't know what the answer is anymore regarding whether max tow is worth it at all (on paper).

Well I guess I need to determine if the stronger axle (with no resulting GVWR increase), the rear bumper (how is it upgraded?), the third leaf spring and the rear sway bar are worth the $900. I would think in the real world when towing, yes. But, that is at the cost of my payload.

Like I said I feel it is more robust, but the only thing below supporting the axle weight is the wheel pair. So they must feel that those are the limiting factor. When combined each L/R pair of wheels has margin, but the left-right weight/force excursions must be what they keep that margin for. Nearly all wheel sets combine for ~4500# on rear axle, which exceeds the #4150 axle rating.

Ford F-150 King Ranch / Platinum / Limited Payload Sticker thread 1610745459338

Note that rear axle on the HDPP is 4800# and each rear wheel is 2400# so it is EXACTLY matched with zero left/right force margin. So it the EB/PB max tow kinda seems to be more robust than the paper specs say. Doesn't help obviously in liability or getting pulled over and weighed though.

I have a question for you guys.
I am looking into ordering a 2021 157" wheelbase but would really like to keep the payload in the 1600-1700 lb range.
Do you think getting the V8, 4x4 only (no FX4), no moon roof, plus the long wheelbase will get me there?
I appreciate your help a bunch! it's hard to find anyone who can help.

My 145” King Ranch Super Crew 4x4 hybrid had a base payload of 1830 lbs, delivered at 1572 Lbs with options. If I bought V-8, I would have had an additional 325 lbs payload, or 1897 lbs with options.

A 157” super crew 4x4 V-8 base payload is 2135 lbs, or with max payload package (662) it has a base payload of 2650 lbs, lots of room for options either way. I believe max payload is available in XLT.
see page 20 of attached for base payloads, find a truck similar to what you have in mind & use it to estimate yours.....

Usually if you are number 1 its good. Not so much in my case. And still waiting on delivery to check the door sticker.
