I changed my oil in my 21 F150 5.0l and used Valvoline 5w30 Extended Protection Full Synthetic and can't believe how much it quiet things down. At a stop light I had to keep looking at my RPM to see if it shut off or not. I have always been a Mobil One guy but heard good things about this Valvoline Extended and thought about giving it a try. I am super impressed for the price.

Very interesting! Was this your first oil change from the factory stuff?

I have used the standard motor craft stuff for my 1K and 5k oil changes but have a couple gallons of Mobil 1 full synthetic id like to use up in 5-30

I should have made that more clear. I did my first oil change at 1000 miles and used the regular recommended Motorcraft blended 5w30.

I hear ya, I have always been a Mobil One diehard for decades but this has really amazed me so far.

my 5.0 liter is still loud after 2 oil changes
:D:D
I tried a bunch of 22’s on the lot a few months ago and they were as loud, if not louder than mine between 3000 and 4000 RPM.

I’m hoping the Mobil 1 I will swap in will yield an improvement!

I’m gonna try the Mobil 1 this next time and if it doesn’t help I’ll see if I can get what you got, how’s it sound at 3200 RPM I’ve got a bit of resonance right now

I thought I was crazy, glad to know I'm not alone. Didnt do the 1k change, but did first change on Monday at 5200. Used Motorcraft semi 5w30 and an FL500S. Noticeably quieter.

I’m just wondering if it’s got something to do with the weird deactivatable rockers when it goes to V4.

If just changing the oil quieted down your engine... you got a bigger problem somewhere. Cut open the filter you removed and see if there's visible grindings, shards, or debris in it.

I used to be to loyal M1 and their filters. Swapped to QSFS with Champ PH500XL filters. Truck is quiet now.

I just did my first at 2500 miles. 5.0 motor. Sounds way quieter around 3-4000 rpm. Makes me think they under filled from factory or it was the break in period burn off of some oil.

I have a 2018 5.0 and I was shocked how much smoother/quieter it ran with 93 octane. It’s pretty remarkable how these engines and adjust to the fuel.

In my Audi prior to my F-150, I tried several different oils over the years and miles. Every oil had a slightly different idle sound with it. They were all high quality oils (Motul, Liqui-Moly, Total, and others) with the same viscosity, but some ran quieter than others.

540Ratblog?

I've been running QSFS too, and those that know me are a little shocked. I was pretty loyal to another oil for a few years.

I'm happy enough with it, but my Blackstone reports have shown a little lower viscosity after 3000 miles (my typical oil change interval) than I would have expected. But everything else looks great.

Supposedly a fantastic oil for antiwar characteristics. Fundamentally what matters most? :)
