I was in rockwall( whole nuther story) and needed to fuel up before the 87 mile back to sanity land

i stopped at a QT, truck was nose down a bit.
when the pump stopped and truck read full the DTE read 587.
wow not my normal 600.

i get back on hwy and running 75-78, 80, with outside temps in the mid forties, no heat on or ac, thats a whole story by itself.

well, its just me, so i am bee bopping and trying to watch the trucks and traffic and start noticing the DTE doing the slow climb UP
so i start checking it around every 5 miles or so and it now climbed after 38 or so miles to 599.... then by time i got to my exit at the other 30 plus miles it is back to 587 😍 😍 😍
mpg stayed at 19 ...so i guess i got free miles or traveled at light speed :geek:
anyway it made my boring DARK trip entertaining to stay alert

I was in the Keys a year or so ago and mine did the same. I filled up just outside Key West and it read 622. By the time I hit Homestead,it was 712. Never had it that high.

My normal displayed range is around 525 miles. The majority of my trips are 5 miles or less.

When I drove to GA last month, the DTE increased, then stayed the same for several hundred miles as it figured out I was on the highway. 😂

I did get about 700 miles out of the tank, which matches what it should when utilized as intended.

Last summer we were towing our boat between a couple local lakes. Around 100 miles of pulling 6500lbs up and down some decent hills. Ended the day put the boat away and the DTE was at around 250.

We drove almost 150 miles, without the boat, to get home from the lake. Pulled in the driveway and the DTE was still 250.

It happens.

On my normal driving, on city freeways with speeds of 75 to 80 mph, after filling the tank, DTE typically reads around 500 miles (my lifetime average is 18.9 mpg with 28k miles)... However, if I fill the tank and start on a road trip, DTE keeps increasing for the first hour or so.. It is really fun to watch it! 😊

I have driven through Rockwall a time or two 😊

36 gal tank and normally see 550 to 600 after a fillup, except I towed a 2000# teardrop 1400 miles a couple weeks ago, and now the DTE algorithm has trust issues with me as it only showed 357 miles to empty after a fillup. Got down to a quarter of a tank of normal non-towing driving, and it's now up to 410 miles. Just think of the math involved; it has to balance what it's seeing instantaneously coupled with some amount of historical/recent driving behavior. Always funny though to watch it go up while driving though.
Oh side note - I too have trust issues with the truck maths. For that towing trip:
MPG average by fuel burn: 11.88 MPG
MPG average by truck computer: 12.4 MPG
