When taking off from a stop, there Is slight shaking / shuddering when the gas engine starts automatically. It’s the kind of shaking when a regular gasoline cranks and starts up. I’m wondering if this is normal with the PB or even with hybrid vehicles in general since it’s my first one.

When I’m moving along and it transitions between EV to ICE, I don’t feel any shaking.
at all.

Yup. normal for mine. Regular ICE start and stop does the same thing. Drive it and enjoy.

thanks for letting me know. With the odd noises PB makes and the 10R80 harshness sometimes I’m not sure what is normal.

Mine does it as well. I always assumed it was normal but it would be nice if it didn't.

Could you describe it in more detail? The one issue I've had w/ ice engagement would be it coming on while it was 1-3 skip shifting. I had 1-3 skip shift removed with the tune and no longer have to deal with that issue. The skip shift was an issue for certain spots where I pull out / clear a drive, the second I was ready to go it'd 1-3 w/ ice engage. Just a poor set of circumstances aligning when I wanted power making it 1-3 at low RPM annoying.

How many miles were on it when you got it? If more than say 100 then use forscan and reset/clear the adaptive transmission tables. Once cleared put it in Sport or Tow mode and drive it calmly avoiding hard acceleration on surface streets for a good 30 or so miles before getting up on the freeway. It will shift like crap at first as it relearns the pressures needed and your driving style. It'll take about 250 miles to complete the adaptive learning cycle and by the end it should have relatively to very smooth shifts with little to no 2nd gear skips.

You can also do this if/when you tow something and forget to put it in tow mode which can cause the transmission to pick up some funky shift or drive-ability behaviors as well.

it gives a little shake as soon as I hit the gas from a stop and the ICE starts up right away , still in 1st gear.

ive seen mine shift 1-2 on harder acceleration and 1-3 on light throttle acceleration. Regardless of if shifts 1-2 or 1-3, it up shifts pretty smooth. I never experienced any harshness when it’s upshifting through any gears.

However my harsh shifting happens during downshifts like from 10-7 and from 3-2. Also I feel a light clunk intermittently when I feather the throttle while it’s in 10th gear.

I bought it with 500 miles. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve been holding out on Forscan but I guess I should finally get.

Mine also does this. I just attributed it to the combination of transitioning from hybrid to ICE and shifting all at the same time. I ignore it now. Shifting from 1st to 3rd happens from gentle starts, with adding just a little more throttle (smoothly) will grab 2nd gear. Mostly I let the truck do what it wants to do.

This could be a variable of the low RPM mode where direct injection shuts off and only port injection is used? It's an emissions thing.

I received my OBDLink EX adapter and have newbie questions.

1. The instructions it has to be in ”Key On” mode but not running. However on the PB with push button start you go into accessory mode without holding the brake while pressing the start button. Is the accessory mode the correct mode to be in with push button start vehicles?

2. In the process of clearing the adaptive tables, should I also clear the PCM?

Main thing is I’m trying to fix the 10R80 shifting clunkiness.

Mine does it too, but one has to be being picky, My wife would never notice. Ecoboosts have a slight stumble when they are cold. As I recall it's it's condensation in the intercooler. Goes away almost immediately. The start shudder, assuming we're talking about the same thing, is sorta like that - Pretty faint, normal for the truck, not something I worry about.
