Been researching this a bit and fully agree. I contacted Generac support today and was told there is no replacement for the 6297 SNK though so we might be out of luck. And it appears all the inventory has pretty much run out.

If I can't find the 6297, I may just go with the 50 A version 6335 and additional dogbone... I would really rather not have to pre-select all the circuits like you must do with the 6852.

No follow up, as much as I hate to say these contractors don't have enough technical knowledge when you take them out of their day-by-day projects. The solution proposed by them was to effectively double my panel and circuit breakers (ish, effectively for me to pick a smaller amount of things I want to run), which beats the purpose.
So I have up, so far I did not need it, but I built my 2 feet custom cable to use it with the transfer switch in case of an emergency (you can find details on the forum).

Yup, you are correct.. The weird thing is that most portable generators have a bonded neutral as well.. You can easily change that, but I don't believe my large generator has a GFCI on the 50amp plug.. So it doesn't care.. A shame for sure..
So you have to drop the neutral cause your grounded at the truck. Otherwise it will fault the truck. I have a back feed process for my house on a 50 amp circuit in my garage. Cost about 300 dollars to do. As long as you cut your main power in from grid and shutdown any solar your truck can power most anything in the house. I can even run my recently replaced ac off the truck as well.

I am not electrician...but I did hire one! My 2023 PB is able to be backup power for part of my house.

When used, it is powering a small TRANE XR AC unit (minimum 13 amp in master bedroom/bath), 2 full size fridges, and powering lights and outlets (in family room, kitchen, master bathroom, and wifi routers in those rooms).

It works great. No grounding issues. Works as advertised! Love my PB! :)

This is with one of two Fridge ON and singular AC unit/furnace ON and all lights in designated area ON. So, yeah, I have plenty of headroom for additional things that I can plug into the outlets of those room(s).

That little Generac 6852 is a wonderful thing.

Pretty clean. I didn't realize their little ATS was simply a 2/3 pole reversing contactor.

The subpanel on the right -- what circuits are in it? I would have moved most of the 120v room/lighting circuits to it and backed up the entire panel with the ATS. Most rooms use ~200 watts or so at most, particularly with LED lighting. The little so called "critical loads" ATS panel leaves too much utility on the table for me personally. This opinion is based on a location with ~4 yearly power cuts that range from 3-24hrs, most about 4hr or less depending on how bad of a storm system comes through.

I did not mess with the main and sub panels...they were installed by builder of house. So, my electrician just worked with what the circuits I wanted to get transferred over.

This was the original list...I did change my selection slightly from that list.

If I buy a PB with the 7.2, my main goal is HVAC, well, mound system, fridge, upright freezer, lights. I could easily switch the well on/off when needed manually. Everything else is gas.

The 7.2 kW will power a normal single family home. You would have to load share such big loads as a dryer, oven, water heater, baseboard heaters or an A/C unit. Using an emergency panel unnecessarily limits the circuits powered. Aside from those big loads your house consumes less than 1 kW.

Keurig when ON eats a lot of wattage…close to 1000!
