Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a quick update on a recent mod I did to my 2024 F-150 (5.0L). I had a Stage 2 Whipple Supercharger installed not long ago, and while the power is awesome, I started getting a little concerned about exhaust temps and the possibility of cat failure under heavy load.

To play it safe, I went ahead and installed the SPD Alpha Catted Y-Pipe with their high-flow Alpha cats. These are designed to handle higher temps and are a popular choice for boosted setups, so it felt like the right move.

So far, I’m really happy with it. The build quality is excellent. Nice welds, solid materials, and everything fit up perfectly with the stock manifolds and the rest of the system. I had a shop do the install and they said it was a smooth job, no issues at all.

Performance wise, I’ve noticed a little bump in throttle response and mid-range pull. It also gave the exhaust a slightly deeper tone. Not crazy loud or droney, just a bit more aggressive. Totally daily-drivable, which is what I was going for.

All in all, I think it’s a great match for the Whipple setup, both for performance and peace of mind. If you’re running boost or planning to, definitely worth checking out.

Let me know if anyone has questions or wants more details!

On order ‘22 RCSB.
Do you have any installed pics? I want to cut the y out and run true dual exhaust and curious about the location of where the pipes converge.

Unfortunately I did not get an installed picture when it was up in the air, but I’ll add a few installed pics tomorrow morning for sure. I’ll try to get a clear shot of the area where the pipes converge so you can get a better idea for your true dual setup.

Very nice setup! I’m thinking of doing the exact same setup on my 2023 Rocky Ridge Whipple Gen 6 Stg 1.

Did you order on your own, wait for the shipment to come to your house, then take it to a shop for the installation? Or did you go through the shop and have them order it and when they got it in they just called you first then installed it?

How much did the SPD Alpha Catted Y-Pipe plus the install run you all together? If you don’t mind me asking because I’m trying to see how much I’m going to spend on this setup. Thanks 🙏🏾

Here’s a pic of my install from the front looking back…maybe it’ll help…

Did you notice a drop in exhaust temps or boost?

I’m a DIY type and I have trust issues, so I ordered it myself. Mainly so I can inspect the package and make sure there were no surprises. I did call a couple of local muffler shops and they would do the install for $250. They said they would remove the transmission cross member to preserve the OEM part instead of cutting it out.

I don’t know about the OP, I don’t know about EGT, I saw no change in boost, except for slightly quicker throttle response. I did notice a drop in CAT temps. I have a little 1/4 mile stretch of flat, straight road where I can hit 4K-ish RPM (I never floor my truck, I don’t need to). I use OBD Fusion to monitor engine vitals. I have no idea how accurate it is or how it calculates CAT temps. Before the install I averaged 1300/1400* every time. After the install I see 1100/1200* every time. I see that on cool days or more recently 90* days, it’s always the same. Cruising on the highways, I see about the same CAT temps overall. The other thing I notice is how fast the CATs cool down whether you exit a highway or come to a stop after a little spirited moment. We all know when you open up the exhaust it can affect torque output. How much, I don’t know, but whether you’re NA or boosted, I think it’s a worth while swap.

I hope this helps.

That looks BEEFY! And appears to be very well made.
It surprised me too. I kept thinking how in the heck is this thing going to fit. Obviously it does, but I had my doubts. The pipe diameter and the CATs themselves are bigger. Just above the transmission support, where the two down pipes join, there is a 1/4” gap, pretty dang tight. To protect this area from exhaust heat, there is an OEM provided a heat shield sticker patch to direct heat away. You do lose the OEM heat shields that the OEM CATs have, but there appears to be enough heat shielding around the CATs regardless 🤷‍♂️

Appreciate it! I ordered from Lethal Performance and it was drop-shipped to me from SPD. It took a few weeks. Paid $2,165 shipped during their Easter sale. I checked out the parts and took them to a local exhaust shop install who for $290 out the door.

SPD also sells ported manifolds for a little power boost.

I recently posted about those on this forum and in two F150 Facebook groups. Everyone damn near said the same thing. That for the price point yielding minimal hp gains over the stock manifolds. I might as well either go LTH with the SPD Alpha Catted Y-Pipe or just keep the stock manifolds and just go SPD Alpha Catted Y-Pipe.
