Anyone know how to update the SYNC? The dealership is stating could be October before they may be able to do it. Plus they say not sure if Ford will cover or if the extended coverage will take care of it. Is this something I can do myself? I am on the old version and over the air updates one work.

I see you have a 2021....so you may not be able to do it yourself...if you have a bad APIM module.
You will want to wait for the dealer to evaluate if that is the case.

Maybe some of the wizards here can take your VIN number and check to see if you need a new APIM, but I'm not sure.

I had to have mine replaced. Once it was replaced my OTA (over the air) updates still didn't work. Then it's either buy yourself a Mongoose OBDII cable ($600) or get on the list here to borrow one. Then you need to buy a license to Ford service servers, and you can do all the updates yourself. It's a bit of pain in the @$$ but once you get it updated to a more recent version, the OTA updates will start working on their own.

Not to get too pedantic, but the Mongoose requirement for any of the FDRS advanced tooling is the J2534 chipset, not just OBDII.

No that's fair. I probably shouldn't have used OBDII as a generic term like that, it could lead someone down the wrong path. Thanks for clearing it up.
