I damn sure don’t have multiple companies jocking it’s position in order to get some of that $7.5B, won’t be buying multiple Rivians or Lightning. I wanna commend the OP for reminding us how the rich play the game and avoid paying their fair share. It’s all about the money Jeff, Personally, I was born with nothing and I got about half of that left. So, yes, I am POOR.
There is a huge difference between companies jockeying for billions of dollars and a poor individual.

Thank God for those companies and the individuals heading them up willing to take the risks and costs of R&D, failure, failure, failure and finally success! Without those people, there would be no cars, trucks, cell phones, solar panels, batteries, TV, internet, makeup, curling irons, hair dryers, electricity, and any other thing you can think of ... and all those things coming that you can't even think of yet.

So, feel free to define fair share please. Where do the majority of the paid taxes come from? Absolutely not the poor!

Maybe we can get back to the original topic of this thread?

Has anyone else read the the charger-specific portions of the bill and care to discuss? I think it's actually going to do a lot to speed up charger deployment.

As best I can tell, TL;DR: The federal government will grant state and local entities up to 80% of the cost of a qualified EV/Natural Gas/Hydrogen fueling station project, up to $15 million. These public entities may partner with private companies to build and maintain the fueling stations. In that case, the private companies are to pay the balance of the cost of the project.

The chargers must be publicly accessible, utilize non-proprietary charging connectors, and use open billing systems. Priority areas are rural areas, economically disadvantaged areas, places with a lot of apartments.

So, a city could put in a grant application construction of a bank of chargers downtown. If they get the grant, they would request bids from companies like Electrify America, Chargepoint, Tesla or Greenlots, who would build and maintain the charging stations. The grant would offset most of the cost of the charging station construction and the city wouldn't be on the hook for maintenance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Relative excerpts from the bill:
The maximum grant amount:
(I) Maximum grant amount.--The amount of a grant
under this paragraph shall not be more than
$15,000,000.
(A) In general.--The Federal share of the cost of
a project carried out with a grant under this
subsection shall not exceed 80 percent of the total
project cost.
Where they should be built:
``(E) Project locations.--A project receiving a
grant under this paragraph may be located on any public
road or in other publicly accessible locations, such as
parking facilities at public buildings, public schools,
and public parks, or in publicly accessible parking
facilities owned or managed by a private entity.
``(F) Priority.--In providing grants under this
paragraph, the Secretary shall give priority to
projects that expand access to electric vehicle
charging infrastructure, hydrogen fueling
infrastructure, propane fueling infrastructure, or
natural gas fueling infrastructure within--
``(i) rural areas;
``(ii) low- and moderate-income
neighborhoods; and
``(iii) communities with a low ratio of
private parking spaces to households or a high
ratio of multiunit dwellings to single family
homes, as determined by the Secretary.
Who can request the money:
``(A) a State or political subdivision of a State;
``(B) a metropolitan planning organization;
``(C) a unit of local government;
``(D) a special purpose district or public
authority with a transportation function, including a
port authority;
``(E) an Indian tribe (as defined in section 4 of
the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance
Act (25 U.S.C. 5304));
``(F) a territory of the United States;
How private companies fit in:
(H) Partnering with private entities.--An
eligible entity that receives a grant under this
paragraph may use the grant funds to contract with a
private entity for the acquisition, construction,
installation, maintenance, or operation of electric
vehicle charging infrastructure, hydrogen fueling
infrastructure, propane fueling infrastructure, or
natural gas fueling infrastructure that is directly
related to the charging or fueling of a vehicle.
(B) Responsibility of private entity.--As a
condition of contracting with an eligible entity under
paragraph (6) or (8), a private entity shall agree to
pay the share of the cost of a project carried out with
a grant under this subsection that is not paid by the
Federal Government under subparagraph (A).
That is crucial as people with home charging capability (50% of US) will rarely use the public chargers while those in dwelling with no charger access will use public charging all the time.
What's odd (I could be missing it in the verbiage) is that private apt complexes do not seem to be able to get funding, even repayble zero interest loans. That might appeal to enough GOP moderates to get passed separately.
Homeowners already can qualify for 30% credit upon charger installation so I would like to see apartment and condo sites get the money and build more Level 2 and fast chargers across the states at places like malls, schools, post offices and military bases.
Well thanks for your reference but this article from 2013 is probably written by a journalism major based on a cost from an Elon twee
Tops raw opinion and provides fact based reference.
Nothing has really changed since then only the Federal subsidy to apply.
F150, Corvette, Bolt EV,
"qualify for 30% credit" That sunsets next month unless there is something in that bill that extents or replaces that.
" economically disadvantaged areas, " Not a great place I'd think but OK.
I don't seem to see any mention of Federal Government in that. Federal Parks would be a great place I'd think.
It's fact based because it is on the internet and you produced a link? Note I don't expect you to believe me. I'm only suggesting to others that your opinion is inaccurate.
Here is what Google would have you believe if you searched "150kW dc fast charger cost". $750k approximate total installation cost for 10. This is likely before purchase of an extended warranty typically prudent for these devices with high failure rates. That would also be before any impacts federal backed grant funding would have on increasing the cost (they will probably require amenities not included in this cost reference). Hard to say if they included electric utility upgrade costs.
