How many hours does it take from start to finish to build an F150? Start might be when the first parts hit the assembly line and finish might be when the truck is first started. My OCD mind would like to know.

After bundling the parts at the line, about 20 hours. YouTube video shows the process.

I know at one point the oakville plant in Ontario a car would roll off the line every minute.
that’s a lot of cars in a day

If they were building them 365 days 24 hours per day, that would be an F150 every 43 seconds.

Since they probably don't build 24/7/365, they actually build them faster than every 43 seconds.

It boggles the mind.

Henry Ford got his assembly line method to build one Model T every 93 minutes and 7,500 per day or one rolling off the line every 10 seconds!

Your using only 1 plant....they have 2. Also, I have seen the 2 hour special on how a F 150 is made and if I remember correctly, there is a truck rolling off the line ever 53 seconds. As the truck goes down the line, each station has 53 seconds to do their job.

I was only doing the math for total output. I didn't consider how many production lines make up the total. It could be 1 facility or 10.

That explains a lot. For example, the fuse box. :sneaky:
Assembly lines are all about efficiency. Quality is a close second.

As the second poster stated, about 20 hours if it was continuously ran. Obviously there's other factors. Like how many shifts they are working at the time, breaks, when machine are down and so on. Each worker will just have a few things they assemble on the truck all shift long, which is why the process works so good.

I took a tour of the facility in 2019, it was pretty cool to see the trucks going down the production line. What blows my mine is they build to order. So you'll have a XL next to a Limited being built. You'll also have Raptors sprinkled in. All different options and colors going down the assembly line. The funny thing is that I had no intention of buying a F-150 at the time.

You can't take pictures while on the tour, but here's a photo of the Raptor with the body off they had out front on display.

They should have a quality group that will perform random audits. They'll also have test groups that will pull production trucks and perform testing. I work for a company in R&D and know about some manufacturing.

This is also literally how anything you buy works, the faster it is made the more cost that can come out of it. The more components you have in something they more issues you can have. Also you are never going to have anything that is 100% perfect, of course they goal is always to have a good product. Recalls cost lots of money.
