I was just about to fall asleep and in a half asleep / half awake state inspiration struck.

My idea is to use a 7 gallon plastic tank and a small 110v pump to fill the tank from a stream/lake/water source. Bonus points for a mesh filter on the hose end that is pulling water in.

Then use a 1500w immersion heater to get the water to a comfortable temperature.

Then switch hoses/connections on the pump and pump warm water from the tank to a handheld shower head.

Voila.

Hot showers in the sticks. No propane or large gas heaters needed.

What am I missing? :)

Edit: Maybe a battery powered pump to reduce the risk of electrical shock?

I didn’t know about Glind and just looked them up. That heat exchanger approach is much more efficient but with a PowerBoost electricity makes it much easier.
Agreed. There are tons of options with the Powerboost. If you end up putting something together come back and show us, this is a great idea.

Because I like using equipment that has multiple purposes my solution turned out to be a collapsable wash basin and microwave oven. Just heat up some water in the microwave and put it in the collapsable wash basin. The beauty of a powerboost is that you can bring a $49 microwave with you.

Curious if you ever built something up? Thinking about doing this.

The exhaust-sourced pre-heat module would make this a really easy reality. I'm surprised the whole tapping exhaust (generator) to use for heating water was never really a thing. So much 'free' heat in the exhaust to tap for such a thing. Half of the fuel from combustion is just going right out the tailpipe.

Found this thread after camping, wondering if a product existed. Related, want a small 120v pump / washbasin product for washing camp dishes. The desired product would be this 120v water heater / pump box plugged into the Powerboost, with a tube to the aquatainer. And then it feeds to a fold out table with wash basin, or you swap it to the shower…
