I guess I'm just a cheapskate. I have this generic $4.99 one on each of my trucks (and I think they were only $3.99 when I bought them):

And on the plus side, they could not be simpler. They just push in and they have never even begun to work their way out in many years.

I'm still curious to know too! Best I can figure is an adjustable height shin damager. It obviously adjusts in a way such that peg always is vertical, but I have never seen a trailer attach to something like that...
