I used to always keep a spare key hidden inside the cab my 2012 F150 in case mine were ever lost, knowing I could get in using the keypad and then find the key to start the truck. With the new typeof pushbutton start, is it possible to keep a hidden key inside the cab or would its proximity enable the truck to be started anytime?

If they were able to get in, the key would enable it to be driven

Wrap it in aluminum foil and try it, I took an extra key on vacation in my luggage wrapped in foil and the truck couldn't see it. You can test it by unlocking the truck, get in with the wrapped key and press the start button. Truck should say key not detected.

You can take the battery out of the fob and stash the fob. The proximity only works when the fob is powered. Use the space under the cup holder to use the fob to start the truck with the dash button (or just put the battery back in).

Someone finding the key could also use the space under the cup holder.

Just saying.

But the OPs question was about storing the key in the car just like the older cars with keys. And those keys could be put in the ignition. So it's no different.

Thanks for the replies/suggestions. I never heard of a farady pouch but it came up right away on amazon. Between that idea and the aluminum foil and battery suggestions I should be good-to-go. I'm pretty confident about the space I use so once again, I appreciate all the responses.

Yeah, no doubt. I was answering OP about making it more difficult than just pushing the dash button.
