Hi! Welcome to the forums!

Can you please train your employees to not air up tires based on what's on the door sticker, but based on the tire specifications? Or even better, to listen to the customer pleading to not de-air the tire?

Sincerely, someone who has stopped getting his free tire rotations because no matter how many times he tells the (multiple) stores to not re-air anything to 35 psi on an E rated tire, the staff does it anyways! And then I have to wait another hour to tell them to air it back up to 45 psi, so I just go home and do it myself!

This x100

I appreciate that the tire shops check the pressure when they do a rotation.

I do not appreciate that they air down my LT tires and I have to stop at Costco after each time to air them back up to the proper PSI.

You guys, no. You think a tire shop should put tires to maximum sidewall pressure instead of the clearly specified and engineered ratings by the manufacturer? that's just nuts.
If you need more than 35 psi, you air them back up yourself at home. Don't expect a high volume tire shop to interrupt their standard protocol to fuss over your exact tire pressure desires. Only takes you 10 more minutes at home if you have a decent compressor. Or buy a viair pump off amazon for $50 and keep it in the truck if you don't already have one.

Anyway, welcome discount tire. When's the next big sale?

Shout out to discount tire. Yea I run my tires at a different PSI but the few minutes it takes to change the PSI when I get home isn’t going to ruin my day. I’ll take the price of free tire rotation and balancing over my local dealerships $50 fee if added to an already overpriced oil change any day. I used to be a les Schwab guy, but recently discount tire has been easier to work with and a better value.

Yes.

Did I say maximum sidewall pressure? The answer is no I did not.
Clearly specified and engineered ratings by the manufacturer?
Yes. Of the tire. Not the truck.

Don't expect a high volume tire shop to interrupt their standard protocol to fuss over your exact tire pressure desires.
Why not? It's a tire shop. I'm not asking them to serve me a bloody mary and an esspresso coffee. Just don't add air if I ask you to not add air during a simple tire rotation. Or maybe add more air if I request more air, in a place that changes tires? I cannot think of a simpler request.

Only takes you 10 more minutes at home if you have a decent compressor.
Yeah, no shit. Or it takes them 1 more minute (or 1 less minute if I don't want any air). What's your point here anyways? A company that does high volume is incapable of flexibility? Do you go to Chilis and ask for a salad with ranch on the side, get an OK from the waitress, only to have the salad come out to you with 3 pounds of ranch on it? And it happens every time? And do you keep going back to Chilis to order the same salad? Or do you go to Applebees, where they take the extra 5 seconds to put the ranch on the side like you asked?

Or buy a viair pump off amazon for $50 and keep it in the truck if you don't already have one.
I keep an air pump in my truck to air the tires when I need to make adjustments or for emergencies, I don't have an air pump to fix a mistake from a business that keeps happening over and over again. I just take my truck to another business.

Lol, easy bud. Easy, like you said, just don't take your truck there at all. Rotate your dang wheels and tires at home yourself.

What are you really even saying, though? Tires don't tell you what inflation pressure to set them to, because it varies by vehicle and purpose; only the maximum allowable. Show me a tire that specifies the "correct" engineered pressure rating that isn't it's max.... ?

All the high-volume tire shops near me are focused on one thing only, getting vehicles in and out as fast as they can. Which makes sense, because people are always waiting for their turn or their vehicle to get handed back. Just get the right hardware on the vehicle, safely mounted and balanced, with 35 psi, and they are all safe to drive down the road. 35 psi across the board works excellently for 95% of customers.

I run 45/60 psi in my 2500hd, sure wouldn't want that rotated by some random teenager, lol.

I really like the local Discount Tire where I am. The last two tire rotations I asked for them to air my LT tires to 45psi and they did it correctly. I didn't have to ask them again or have to fix it. Worse comes to worse, there is a Wawa across the street with free air or I can use the compressor at my house. However, if it happened continuously, then I'd check in the lot and go right back inside and ask them to fix it on the spot. The reason I go there and not rotate at home is to get them rebalanced. That is just as important as the rotation. ymmv.

Hey, welcome Discount tire! Looks like things have started off with a bang lol.

An endless debate quite likely but I run my 80 psi LT tires at 35 psi. It's what the Michelin inflation chart recommends, what my chalk tests have indicated give me full contact, and will wear more evenly.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us @wayfarer556 & @PBXL . I apologize that your visits did not go the way they should have.

For transparency, there are a several factors that come into play when it comes to recommended cold tire pressure for non stock tire specs, specifically load index and pressure. We follow industry standard and look at the factory tire's load index/construction and the factory recommended air pressure (noted on the door placard). We then cross reference these numbers using load inflation tables and the table indicates how much load the factory tire carries at the factory recommended pressure. For us, this is the minimum load carrying capacity the tires must be able to carry. We then again utilize the load inflation table to find the recommend pressure to identify the proper pressure for the tires on the vehicle.

With that being said, our stores can certainly inflate the tires to a higher pressure as requested, as long as the max cold PSI on the tire is not exceeded. My apologies again that this did not take place.

Anyway, welcome discount tire. When's the next big sale?
Thank you for the welcome; we're excited to be part of the community!

I'm not sure when the next door buster sale will take place; we typically don't find out until a few days in advance. We'll be sure to post up as soon as we know!

On a side note, we do mountain our low price promise for all the tires/wheels we offer and will not be undersold. If a competitor has a cheaper advertised out the door price, even with an incentive, please let us know!

We appreciate the shout out! Glad to hear your local store is getting you taken care of.

If you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out to us here on the forum.

That's great to hear! Let us know when you're ready for the new rubber, would love the opportunity to help get you taken care of.

Welcome! Will you be able to offer members a discount? I’ll be purchasing tires in the next month and would certainly appreciate a member discount for ordering online. Thanks!
Thank you so much, Brandon!

There are no forum member discounts, however this isn't to say the members here won't get the one up from time to time. I'll add that we maintain our low price promise for everyone and will not be undersold! Should a competitor have cheaper advertised out the door price, please let us know!

Shoot us direct message when you're ready and we'll make sure you're taken care of!

Thanks for coming in, Joe and that is correct - Tire Rack has been part of the family since early 2022 😎
