Granted, I come from a world of cars and SUVs and this is my first truck, but I find the 2021 F-150 break pedal quite stiff and I have to press quite hard to break, as opposed to anything else I've driven before. Brand new vehicles generally have a stiffer break pedal,, but this one is a few notches above what I've encountered to date.

Is this typical of the F-150/trucks in general?

(I don't have the hybrid/powerboost model)

How many miles? Mine felt pretty stiff for the first couple hundred miles until the brake pads wore in a bit. Brake pedal force is heavier than my Edge, but not by much, and the truck weighs quite a bit more.

Mine is 4 days old, and less than 400 KM on it. My Edge, even brand new, didn't have a pedal nearly as stiff. That's why I was wondering if this was specific to trucks or...?

You're stopping 2 and a half tons of vehicle that might give you a different feel.

That could very well be. Like I said, I have no point of reference other than cars and SUVs. This is certainly much different and feel like I have to apply twice as much force on the break in the truck as opposed to what I'm used to.

These trucks have an electrically assisted brake system instead of the conventional vacuum assisted. This will give you much less of the squishy feel associated with vacuum assisted systems.

I wasn't aware, thank you. This can explain the different feeling.

my peddle feels fine although I do notice that it is far less sensitive when kicking the brake to disable cruise control compared to any vehicle that I have driven previously

My first reaction when driving my truck was the heavy break feeling. Totally used to it now, interested to see if it changes over time

I hear you. It was my initial feeling as well. I'm also slowly getting accustomed to it. Switching often between my truck and my suv though makes me wonder every time if there's something wrong with those heavy breaks.

I have noticed this too. It takes quite a poke at the brakes to disengage cruise control. I have started using the steering wheel button to disengage cruise control instead of the brake pedal. Much smoother.

I do believe that it is a different braking system even without the powerboost.

Thanks Dan. It must be indeed be different from any other car/suv I've driven before. It's stiffer and definitely requires a heavier foot on the break to come to a stop. Could be a combination of a different type of breaking system in the F150 as well as the added weight.

I wonder if they did it to force people into lighter breaking to allow it to charge....
