I ordered a Lariat with front row bench seat and just realized it does not come with heated steering wheel. Granted it’s a first world problem I’d be very interested in getting it installed afterwards.
anyone in the same situation and have made any attempts?
Update:
I haven't done it myself yet but looks like our fellow members have found the solution here.
I'm still in the progress of digesting everything and I'll post updates as I go through the entire thread.
DM me if I'm missing anything.
Things you will most likely need to complete the retrofit:
- A Steering Wheel that supports the heated steering wheel (HSW) feature, some with the HSW delete from factory may already have the HSW itself just missing the control module.
- A Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) that can send power to the HSW. e.g. ML3Z-3F791-BB (you highly unlikely have it in place if no HSW feature from factory).
- Harness(es) with appropriate wiring/pin out (some already have them in place).
- (optional) HVAC control panel that has the heated steering wheel button. Part no. ML3Z-19980-K ford replacement parts or ML3T-18C612-DE.
Alternatively you can program your head unit to show a soft button on the screen.
- FORScan and appropriate coding.
From what I understand the procedure should be as follows:
1. Make a backup of as built values in FORScan
2. take the airbag off to check what parts/harness you currently have, this is because some may already have the heated wheel in place and just missing the SCCM due to chip shortage.
3. check if the harness/pins are already in place
4. purchase necessary parts for the retrofit
5. install, load factory as-built values into SCCM (and HVAC), make appropriate changes to allow HSW to work.
