"Received" a very small chip right in front of my eyes. I replaced several windshields in other vehicles in the past but there is something that stresses me out about replacing the windshield in the F-150 with the Rain Sensing, cameras, radars, etc. I know the professionals know what they are doing, but still...I am having anxiety just thinking about it. So I was thinking of trying to repair it myself first.
Has anyone tried this stuff before, with those kits you buy at auto part stores?

Thanks.

Check your insurance, mine did it for free and Safelite came to my house and did the repair. The guy said it could cost upwards of a grand to replace these windshields due to all the sensors that need to be reset.

I have heard that the repair kits work great. That said, if it is directly in your field of vision (straight in front of you) that may present issues with a third party (Safelite, etc) doing the repair. I do not know if that is still the case, but it cost nothing to find out!

Going to work.
I have done it myself many times over the years and it is easy if the chip is repairable. Keep your expectations realistic in that the repair will never be invisible, you will be fine. Also, make sure to read, understand and follow the directions exactly before you even start the repair for best results. I had my winshield removed and replaced with the recall and there where no issues so whatever you choose will be fine, I am sure.

I have tried the do-it-yourself kits and while they do an ok job, they aren't as good as a professional job. I have had to redo the repair on a few that I did myself but the ones repaired by safelite lasted for as long as I had the vehicle (many years) and you could never tell any repair was done. Chips should be repaired. Depending on the extend of the damage, they could turn into cracks in the windshield if they arent filled/repaired.

Thank you all. I will check with the insurance first.
I had an OK experience with Safelite in the past for a replacement, that was in MA. Last time was in SC, it wasn't a Safelite vehicle, looks like someone local, but I think they did a much better job. The funny thing is that the payment was issued (by the insurance) to Safelite. Maybe they outsourced it.

I'll add - whatever you do, do it quickly before the damage spiders and gets worse. My wife had a repairable chip, ignored it and it eventually cracked the entire windshield, which ultimately required a full replacement.

I have a small chip in my windshield.
It's on the driver's side.
It's about 1 millimeter in diameter.
Should I get it repaired?
If so, should I do it myself or have someone else do it?
Any recommendations (links) to do it yourself kits?

USAA will split for chip repair by Safelite. Overall a windshield replacement has cost on the order of $1200 total to USAA. Then there's deductible...

I used a kit while on the road with the airstream. It’s held up for well over a year. Just part of my ”paranoid stock”. Hope I never need the valve stem repair things.
