5.0 is great as this is my last truck before retirment Im happy that I wont have to worry about turbo problems, a V8 is solid but you need to keep it under control:p, I couldnt resist today and Give it a shot on the Highway wow that thing when using the S mode with the 3.73 on it and it get on the 4A by itself and it is pure provocation where I go for my lunch break they installed a red light before two line ramp to get on the Highway, :)

This 5.0 is the only way to go! Fuel mileage is 21- 22 on the highway @ 74 mph. 3.31 in the rear, electronic locking. In the city it gets 18 light footed, but if a Ram or a Silverradoo pull up they see my tailgate. I had a 5.4 trident in a short bed, this one outs accelerated & better mileage.
My mileage is increasing a little bit every day.
Despite what the indicator is telling me, I’m smart enough to not to quite believe it.
At the last fill up, I did the math and got an average of 19.1 and I’m okay with that.
It is a Super 8 4x4. 5.0 with 3.31

Super happy with mine. Smooth and powerful. Platinum 4x2. Two 400 mile tanks of mostly highway driving so far has yielded just over 24mpg. (Calculated... the trip computer reads about .8 miles optomistic. It was saying 25mpg). Could not be happier at this point as I will be doing a lot of traveling in this truck.

Originally, I had no plan to buy the V8. I went to test drive a 3.5L and the sales manager asked if I would like to try the 5.0L as well. I agreed to and test drove both. I bought the V8 that day. I love it!

I only get 16.5mpg on my 2008 4.6l with 248hp, so this has been an amazing improvement.

Haven’t gotten it yet but ordered 5.0 4x2 with 3.31 locking.

I choose this option because I plan to keep the truck for a long time (I average 200k miles per vehicle) and I’m not comfortable pushing a turbo that long. Like someone else mentioned, my goal is to keep this one until I retire.

The gas mileage number you guys are posting are really exciting! My 2011 Escape V6 (180,000 miles) is getting just slightly better and its a much smaller and less powerful vehicle.

5.0 4 Life - Just picked up my 21 and the difference between this one and my 18 is that the 18 is louder while this 21 sounds much quieter. Borla time ? The start stop is also almost unnoticeable. Truck seems taller. P.S. Hate the steering controls on this 21 - Where’s the mute button lol. Where’s the “source” button?!?!

You guys with 3.73 gears, are your trucks mostly 4x4 with bigger tires? I would think the 4x2 with 3.31 gears and smaller tires would net similar RPM's at speed. I wrangled with the gearing choice in the 5.0 4x2 XLT I just ordered.. the 10-SPD considered. Ended up choosing the 3.31 with electric locking. Interested to get opinions.

So, I found an RPM calculator to compare the 3.31 that I ordered to the 3.73 given my 265/60R18 tires and the 10-spd's 0.636 final gear.

At 75 mph, the 3.31 would turn 1,739 RPM's.

At 75 mph, the 3.73 would turn 1,960 RPM's.

The Ram I'm trading in on the F150 is geared high with an 8-spd and it lugs to death all the time. I hate it. Runs about 1,600 at 75.

I only ordered my F150 last Friday. How hard is it to do a change order on these trucks so quickly after placing the order?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I think you made the right decision with the 3.31. If you find that the driving conditions on a certain day (headwind) is kicking your ass in 10th gear, simply lock out 10th and now you have your 3.73.

I tried this today and it was incredible.

The F150 is running at a higher RPM than your Ram is so its probably ok, or as suggested lock out 10th.

Whether or not you can change the order depends on whether or not Ford has picked up the order yet, check with your dealer. I was able to add on a few additional options several days ordering as it still hadn’t been picked.

Hi no I don’t change the tire size keep the 20 inch wheel on it with the 3.73. As I pull my boat 5500 lbs or my double axles trailer 8800 lbs. our highways speed limit is very low here 100kmph. Or 60 m/hr. Cop pulls you if your going over 120 $$$

The truck I ordered has 18" wheels with 30.5" diameter tires, but point taken.. most of my driving is local and constant shifts at lower speeds and/or lugging too low at low speeds is what I want to avoid. It's not just highway RPM's that concern me. Plus my towing capacity should increase a little with the 3.73.

If the dealer can't make the order change, I'll just live with locking out the high gear when needed.

My salesman is supposed to find out today if it's too late to change it.

3.73 is only available with the 5.0 in conjunction with the max towing package. Not worth buying a $1,000 option upgrade that I don't need. 3.31 it is...

Not true, I got the 3.73 Limited Slip gears as a stand alone option with the 5.0 and the Tow Technology package.
