I had a 2016 3:73 9.5“ 5.0 SC now I have 2022 3:73 9.5” 5.0 SC there are differences in how the driveline feels (no clunks yet)when shifting. The new engine is much more powerful than the 2016. It took longer to breakin foresure. Mine just came to life at 6800 miles on the clock. No ticks or piston slap when cold. I just lock out gears 8,9,10 turn off trac cntrl and it’s crazy fast. rear end acts like limited slip, both tires spin. makes Ya grin like a kid, it hits 100 quick.
I don’t like the tranny‘s light pump gear whine at low RPM or short droaning pump sound when going into gear from park Or reverse.
I like the engine And think it’s improved quite a bit. Longevity will tell all.
Kinda worry about oil pump belt/tension when hot Roddin it. Belts creep and break if the tensioner isn’t a really good design.
tow Mode is really nice with a trailer. So smooth.

YouTube cylinder deactivation. There’s a group that does F-150 videos and apparently very easy to deactivate CD disconnecting a plug going to battery.
Same group came out later stating that the battery disconnect trick does not work.
Only thing I know of that stop the deactivation are sport mode (which sucks imo) tow mode or getting a custom.tune to turn it off.

Supposedly pressing ‘M’ turns off cylinder deactivation too, I have not confirmed this yet though

if I’m on a long stretch of highway I’ll just hit the M button To lock it in 10th and throw it into tow haul, no noticeable loss of MPG

I think the video you are talking about is from Backroad Drivers, the Mizer brothers. Unplugging a connection into the battery actually did not work as they explained in the comments. Sport mode, tow haul mode, driving in manual or a tune seem to be the only options at this time.

Livernois, and soon to possibly be 5 Star will have CD off mode, with tranny improvements. I like the looks of the canned modes on the 5 Star....looks impressive.

Had a black 3.5EB for about a year. Now in the Iconic Silver Coyote. Tows better. Sounds better. Feels better. Don't miss the turbo lag a bit.

supercab, nice!!

i'm also blown away at how well the 5.0 handles a towing load, i've also maxed out the payload at 2000 lbs and it had zero problems

I completely understand the fear given the past issues with GM's cylinder deactivation but haven't heard, read or seen a peep about issues of any kind with the 5.0 cylinder deactivation.

If there are any, I would sure love to hear about them.

Just throwing some extra information out there but it's actually cylinders 1, 4, 6 and 7 that are deactivated. If you look from the front of the motor, it's kind of like a staggered in-line 4.

While I would certainly prefer no rattle, I'll take that over the GM lifters that seem to have a random countdown timer on when they decide to become stuck.

i was racking my head the other day to try to figure out how the Ford ones work. Does oil pressure keep them ‘stiff’ and able to work normally and then oil gets cut off in deactivation mode and it makes them like jelly?
