Backroad drivers posted a video, they upgraded their exhaust on the 5.0 and only after that was done could they hear the slight change in the exhaust when Cyliner Deactivation kicked in. Besides that there was no other indicators or “feeling” of that function turning on or off.

This would be a big improvement over the GM technology. I have not drove one recently, but I had a 2012 Silverado that sounded like a John Deere Hit and Miss engine when it kicked in.

Hopefully, the 5.0 cylinder deactivation scheme has a more benign failure mode than the GM Smallblock does.

Have received my KR last week, ? With a 3.73 and the 5.0. Like my last 3 F150. And I’m holdIng my self not to tap it to the floor best sound so far and very responsive for the mileage per gallon I’m working on my self and like the eco application that give me a kind of challenge. Still trying to figure out all the technology like the active light system that actually create a dimming effect for incoming trafic(y)(y)(y)(y) but light to see my blue light for the high beam coming on automatic a 787 page owner manuals it is a lot to read, thanks to Ford eng. I am very happy..

I hate that automatic dimming feature----first thing I turned off in my truck.
Most of my driving is in the dark, and I am a low beam driver in 90% of my driving.
Low beams are good for me as I tend to look beyond and off to the sides of the light, looking for those frequent objects that tend to jump out in front of you. I can see the sparkle in their eyes before I get to them.

So far I'm enjoying my choice to opt for the coyote powerplant. I live up in the mountains in Northern NH. I took a trip over the past weekend to visit the in-laws and averaged 23mpg on the way over there (~100 miles) and 21.5mpg for the round trip. It went down a bit due to about an hour of city driving/stop and go. I've got the 3.73 rear end. I think the truck has ~700 miles on it now, purchased on 2/9.

Wow this gives me hope! I have 500 miles and averaging around 16.5 right now. Hopefully I can get it up to 20!

Coming out of a 3.5L ECO to the new 5.0L i'm very happy, sounds awesome and more than enough power. Zero signs of the cylinder deact kicking in...if there is an option at some point to turn it off i'd probably do that unless we find out more details on how it works and any possible longevity issues (or not).

I’m coming from A 2013 raptor swapped fx4 with a built 3.5 and big turbos, but I don’t really find myself missing it. This truck is nearly as fast with the lack of weight and 37” tires, so I’m fairly content. Especially considering that I haven’t begun to modify this one yet.

Also, getting more than 12.5mpg at 75 has it’s advantages.

Making any improvements yet?
My indicator has crept up to 19 this week for the lifetime avg.
I just breached 1000 miles a couple of days ago.
Not sure exactly what I’m getting on this tank tho
Last fill up
546 mi and 28.4gal ———19.2 but dash said 20.3
All in all, pretty content with that.
Not sure if it will keep creeping up, but at this point not too concerned.
3.31 gearing

I look forward to driving the 5.0 on Friday when I pick up the truck. Trading off a 3.5 ecoboost. I liked that engine when it worked. BUT, there were times it didnt.
-Coil pack overheating on #3 at 60,000 miles/ Replaced them all (#3 in a wal-mart parking lot at 105 degrees in Montana)
-Throttle body failure at 40,000 miles (hello limp mode)
-Cracked exhaust manifold 50,000 miles
-oil leak 15,000 miles
-turbo leak 90,0000 miles

Truck gone 1110,000 miles.

It pulled like a mule when trailering. Spun the tires often when you kicked it down.

But, hoping the "simpler" 5.0 will do me better.

It has not. I did a 600 mi round trip this past weekend so I’m getting close to 2k miles total. Still around 16.8 mpg. The 600 mi trip was all highway miles too.... cruise control for half of it around 77mph.

I have not reset my trip since day 1. Once I hit 2500 miles I plan to do an oil change and fill up the tank/reset the trip to see what I start averaging.

Also ran the tank to nearly E I had 20 miles to empty went to fill up and couldn’t get 32 gal in the tank. It stopped just before that. So kinda confused on the whole 36 gal tank unless there are 2-3 gals on reserve or something.
