New to this forum but have been reading in the background for months. This post is why I got an F150 w/5.0

I had ‘23 GMC Sierra AT4 w/6.2…I bought it used with 13k in Feb last year, first motor went out in April (spun main rod bearing), then the transmission needed rebuilt, then I got a brand new 6.2…later than summer, another spun main rod bearing…I traded it in to a ford dealership. It’s still currently sitting at the Chevy dealership waiting on a 6.2 which is backordered. GM refused to buy it back, they knew what was going on. They gave me a large chunk of cash to go away after months of back and forth. Good riddance to that nightmare truck.
Damn - sorry to hear about your troubles with GM. Sounds like a nightmare for sure. Welcome to Ford, which certainly isn’t problem free, but a hell of a lot better than what you just dealt with.

The AT4 looked good but I’m glad she’s gone, I had a Silverado 5.3 for 10 years zero issues. Happy to have the 5.0…whipple FP in the future months after I feel comfortable with the powertrain making sure I have no factory issues.

I use to be a big GM guy. Not much anymore. I wouldn't touch a GM gas v8 that has AFM with a 10ft pole. Notorious for the lifter failures and it has to be torn down to the short block at a minimum to fix it. Their transmission problems though it was really soured me. You think ford is bad, GM is worse. At least Ford made efforts to fix the CDF drum and Trash Can. GM just refuses addressing them for the most part. 6lxx and 8lxx are lucky to get past 80000mi in stock form.

GM had problems with many engines sold in 2014 with excessive oil consumption and far fewer after 2019 when the problem most often reported was with the lifters. Most repairs were done on engines with more than 80,000 miles on the trucks.

Trucks with a far higher rate of failure reported were the Ford 2016 model year and it usually involved needing to replace the throttle body as the trucks would stall or die while driving - a bit scary for the driver and any passengers when this happens on a freeway. To be safe I chose a Ford truck with the 3.5L V-6 engine.

Anyone notice the recent Ford recall on the 2.7 engines? Ford F150 2.7L Ecoboost Engine Recall for 91,000 Engines with potential catastrophic Engine failure. The term catastrophic is what got my attention.

From what I saw on the 2.7l it is to do with the valves bring improperly hardened cause valve material to fall into the cylinder.

How does GM not have their push rod V8 engineered correctly after making them for so long?
The use of 0/5W-20 oil in engines that were designed to use 10W-30/40, coupled with very low oil pressure settings to reduce oil pump loads, is very likely a source of the problem. It's not all that difficult to understand that a water-thin engine oil, diluted with fuel from direct injection systems can't do the job of properly lubricating a 400+HP V8.

I had three Silverados, a 2007, 2011, 2015. Loved them. All with 5.3 with no problems. The 2015 was the first one I kept to 110,000 miles. The lifter problem sprung up and I switched to a F150. Great truck! More room inside, lots of places to store stuff. More adjustable seat and steering wheel. Only complaint is, the steering wheel controls like radio and cruise are not as user friendly. But, I'll get used to it

No one is forced to use the 0W-16 or other motor oil formulated for 2017 and newer engines. Someone with a 2015 engine should refer to the owner manual and use the recommended motor oil. This is not rocket science but does require that one can read and follow directions.

Not forced necessarily but certainly compelled to use the weight stamped on the oil cap for warranty purposes.

It's a direct result of emissions requirements. I wouldn't bother with the manual and run a 5w-30 unless you're near arctic like temps. Just don't forget to buy the manuals suggested oil first, photo the receipt and then swap for 5-30.

Unfortunate imo because GM is an American owned, full sized truck (my preferred vehicle of choice) and besides Ford not many left. I have heard about the lifters, motor issues of recent small block V8 Chevy/GMC from some of my contractors. I like Chevy as well as Ford so I hope they get it under control asap. Sad what the Government forced on our top U.S. auto manufactures.
Honestly, I am kind of glad to see the new Tundra Turbo having so many problems, particularly for Ford

The largest shareholder of GM is Vanguard. Second is Blackrock. Yay.

Forgive me for not chanting U-S-A!

Kind of a big deal-
I have been a GM 1/2 ton gut for 30+ years First new full size in 93. I recently traded my 2004 5.3 4x4 with close to 200k still didn’t use oil. I got about 25% of what I bought it new for in trade. I bought a f-150 super crew long bed 4x4 5.0. Due to the problems with oil use and valve train failure. In the other hand I bought a 2003 f-350 crew long bed 6.0 and got rid of it in 2018 I got about 15% of what I paid for it and spent over 10k in repair bills for it to make it to 100k. So I bought a 2018 GMC crew duramax hoping to keep the he operating cost down. So far no problems. The point is do some research and get what works for you. By the way the F-150 I bought has to be the quietest most responsive. 1/2 ton I have owned very happy with the purchase.
