By this point we seem to have a pretty good idea on what the next truck will look like. By far the biggest question remaining for me is what will be available to power the next F-150.

Post any new powertrain info here!

If Ford is smart, the V8 will still be available, either 5.0L or 4.8L, what ever. If they still use the 5.0L, they need a little power bump to about 420. Hell, we all know that would be easy to do.

I found the last generation 5.0 engine to be a little lethargic towing a trailer around town. But at 3500 rpms, the engine really woke up and it was quite quick. Be nice to have a little more power down low in the rpm scale.

I'm sure the 5.0 will be back it will be interesting to see if the 290HP 3.3 will continue to be the base engine.

Will this be the last gen F-150 with the 5.0L option? With the hybrid and electric versions being rolled out I'm sure that is the direction but if people keep buying it...

That would be my guess, yes. There's been talk, but unconfirmed that a new 4.8-liter is coming. I don't think it gets to the 2021 F-150, but maybe mid life of the 14th generation it willl.

I still can't imagine why you would choose the 5.0 V8 over the 3.5TT? It has to just be for people that want a V8 no matter what. They are both reliable but the advantage with the V6 are many... especially if you live at elevation. Its crazy how many engines there are available...

You better be careful. You don't want to get into this argument with the V8 folks. I've been down this rabbit hole. It's not pleasant. FWIW, I agree with what you're saying. Having been on your side, here's the reason for the other side preferring the V8: they are louder, I am old-school and trucks need V8s, V6s are stupid

I’ve owned the 2nd gen 3.5 and my next truck will be the 5.0, with the caveat I will be aiming to add a blower. Nothing wrong at all with the 3.5, it’s fantastic. I just found that I prefer the linear power delivery of the V8. And of course I really missed the exhaust note. I don’t tow much and if I did I would probably stick with the 3.5.

Yeah, I've heard that before. I think you're nuts to give up performance for more noise but whatever floats your boat, they still make both. I turned off the fake noise in my truck, I like them quiet.

The old hot rodder adage is still true There's no replacement for displacement.

The 3.5 ecoboost with Hybrid sounds very interesting when you look at the Aviator 3.0L Hybrid - 495 hp and 630tq!
We are looking at 500+hp and 700tq while getting better mpg! Unless it adds alot of weight or Ford keeps it in the very high trims

I guess, if you don't mind looking at the back end 3.5 liter V6 pickup?
