Is tuning going to come to an end after 2025?
Im not holding my breath that right to repair is going to make much headway in the foreseeable future.
Are we going to see the sale of pre loaded modules? Or possibly having to send out our modules to be bench programmed.
I like the thought of having swappable ecm. One factory for going in for service and one for tunes. Or am I under thinking this.
Or will I be forced to buy a bunch of 2023 trucks and stash them away for future use.

We might see a resurgence of piggyback modules and mechanical/electrical hacks to get around locked PCMs if things continue down their current path. At the high end of the market, people making big power will just switch to standalone PCMs or stick with older platforms if things get too difficult.

That's what I'm thinking. Have you seen the cheep prices of used modules?

One would think the price is these modules is gonna drop. If traditional tuning is a thing in the past which 24 seems to be the beginning of the end the add-ons might become more competitive and more available.

Its hard to imagine the massive market place disruption that these lockdowns are going to have. Can these vehicles be upgraded with aftermarket audio systems?
Maybe don't quite understand. I see the intire can buss locked down. A 2000.00 scanner just to change out tpms or rotate tires. Somethings got to give.

They are certainly making it more difficult, and it seems like the OEM’s want in on that A/M money now offering their own

It's pretty interesting I'm surprised how lockeddown it is still. But I will be honest, I won't be a customer. I wonder how many of us no longer feel the need to have custom tuning on our vehicles. My 07 Mustang and '04 F-150 have been tuned for a long time because of the early drive-by-wire. It was a necessity. These new trucks specifically my 2024 is fantastic for throttle response compared to what I've been used to.

However, it's still kind of wild to me how those that do feel the need and want to, still aren't able to with it being locked out.

I'm veering away from tuning or modifying audio on my modern daily drivers. It's just not worth the risk to warranties and the electronics on modern cars are too interconnected, and faulty, in some cases. I'd rather keep that as my reliable, or warranty repairable vehicle to get me around most days. That's one of the reasons I buy new vehicles.

I think if people enjoy tuning, modifying, or tinkering, a project vehicle is the way to go, if you can afford it. I'm lucky to have some cars to play with in that regard. If I break something or do something wrong, it doesn't effect anytjing but my enjoyment of the vehicle on a weekend cruise or trip to the track. But I leave my daily drivers alone now, aside from suspension work, cosmetic stuff, or wheels/brake upgrades.

I've been wondering how many people have this same mindset. I am that way now, and have my older 2004 and 2007 to play with. I'm not touching my 24. Too much stuff and honestly it's so nice to just have something takes you A to B that's so good out of the box.

I fully support being able to do ecu tuning and having a strong aftermarket does a lot to drive interest to certain models. I realize the F150 is less of an "enthusiast" line vs the Mustang, for example, and appeals to a wider variety of people but people who want to tinker with their trucks should still be able to.

That all being said. I've heard the same thing many times over the years back as far as when the S197 Mustang was unveiled in 2005 with an encrypted ECU that took a little time to unlock. Hopefully this is the same situation although it is possible the encryption is stronger now.
